A night guard protects your teeth. But it doesn’t necessarily explain WHY you’re grinding them.
And that’s an important distinction.
If you’re waking up with jaw tension, headaches, facial soreness, tooth sensitivity or signs of wear, putting a night guard over the problem may protect the teeth from further damage — but it doesn’t automatically address the factors contributing to the grinding.
For some people, nighttime clenching and grinding can be connected to what’s happening with breathing and airway function during sleep.
That’s why I don’t want to look at your teeth in isolation.
I want to look at the whole system:
→ Where is your tongue resting?
→ Are you breathing through your nose?
→ Can you maintain a comfortable lip seal?
→ How are your oral muscles functioning?
→ What does your swallowing pattern look like?
→ What’s happening while you sleep?
A night guard may absolutely be part of your care.
But protecting the teeth and addressing contributing factors are not the same thing.
If you’re tired of waking up with a sore jaw, headaches or signs of grinding, let’s look deeper.
