The way of St James, a pilgrimage to seek spiritual growth or as penance. I had envisioned enlightenment or peace. However. I felt anger, loneliness and despair. I carried a small amethyst from Thunder Bay as a symbol of my burdens/mistakes and traumatic childhood experiences. I left it all behind in Europe.
I learned to give myself GRACE and allow these uncomfortable emotions to surface. I wept often, grieving lost friends and family.
While most of my journey was alone. I met people from all over Europe, Taiwan, China, Russia, Ukraine , Mexico, US and other fellow Canadians.
I learned that humanity isn’t something you see on the news or social media. It’s something you have to experience
