A big thanks to everyone at Equitable for bringing hearts, smiles and encouragement to CMH with their recent donation of handcrafted items from our Wishlist.

Created as part of Equitable’s annual volunteering activities across the region, the team donated handsewn scent hearts for our tiniest patients in the Special Care Nursery, and colourful bracelets and thoughtful cards for patients across various departments. These meaningful gifts will help bring comfort and warmth to our patients and visitors. Thank you Equitable!

Scent hearts are an item from CMH's Wishlist. One of our present needs on this list supports children in our Fracture Clinic, through our Cast Buddy program.

Last week, members of our Nursing Advisory Council had the opportunity to learn from Ben Wilsteed, Traditional Healing Shkaabebewis with Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC), and Jamie MacBeth, Indigenous Patient Navigator for Guelph/Cambridge. Together, participants explored Indigenous cultural safety and the significance of the Four Sacred Medicines: Semaa (to***co), sage, cedar, and sweetgrass.

The session encouraged meaningful reflection on how we can continue to provide care that is respectful, inclusive, and informed by Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ways of knowing.
Education and ongoing learning are important steps on the path toward Reconciliation. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn together and strengthen our commitment to culturally safe care for all.

Building relationships starts with listening, learning, and coming together with positive intentions.

On July 7, 2026, we gathered for a Smudging and Re-energizing Ceremony led by Clarence Cachagee, member of the Chapleau First nations and founder of Crow Shield Lodge. Through his songs and teachings, leaders reflected and participated in a ceremony to re-energize the eagle feather gifted to CMH to hold in 2024. This spiritual renewal is more than bringing positive energy to the hospital — it's a reflection of our allyship and how stronger relationships with community partners create a more welcoming and culturally safe healthcare experience for all.

Together, we create healthier communities. Thank you to Clarence for sharing his knowledge, teachings, and guidance.

Understanding the communities we serve relies on the partnerships we form within it. That's why we connected with Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) to learn more about their services and the important role Indigenous-informed care plays in supporting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.

Huge thank you to Jamie Macbeth, Indigenous Patient Navigator and Ben Willsteed from SOAHAC for helping us raise the bar on informed care for the diverse communities we serve.

You deserve to feel safe, respected, and welcomed in our hospital.

During Pride Month, a Lunch & Learn invited staff to explore what inclusive care looks like in practice. From trauma-informed approaches to respectful communication and how we can come together to create an environment where 2SLGBTQIA+ patients feel seen and supported.

Thank you to Erin Houston, OK2BME Program Lead from Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health for sharing practical ways we can continue building more inclusive healthcare for all.

Behind every great patient experience at Cambridge Memorial Hospital is a volunteer who made a moment better.

At the 135th AGM of the CMH Volunteer Association we celebrated the people who bring compassion to life across the hospital from the front doors to clinical spaces and everywhere in between.

This past year alone, volunteers contributed more than 33,000 hours in support of patients, families and care teams. Their impact is felt in simple but powerful ways: guiding someone when they feel lost, offering reassurance in uncertain moments, and helping create a more human experience in healthcare.

The evening also included a remarkable surprise. A $110,000 donation to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation, a testament to the generosity and commitment of this volunteer community. Over the years, CMH VA has contributed over $850,000 in support of new equipment and technology at CMH.

We also celebrated incredible milestones, recognizing volunteers with years and decades of service alongside those just beginning their journey. Each pin, certificate and award represents something much bigger: a culture of care, connection and community.

At CMH, volunteers don’t just support the hospital. They shape how care feels. And that makes all the difference.
