Spiritual warriors hear me out!
During my time in Kelowna, I made a handful of friends, one in particular one day we were jamming on a song together that he wrote, it had Rage Against the Machine, stand up and protest vibes. I still carry the fire of that song with me today 🔥
Leaving Kelowna has been a profound decision for me. There was something about the city that wasn't my vibe. It wasn't until I left that I felt like I could finally reflect.
When people ask me about Kelowna now I tell them it's a beautiful place, the land that surrounds is gorgeous, hiking is epic, the lakes, the ability to eat with the seasons, fresh fruit and vegetables is so nourishing. But tourism is chaos, traffic is terrible and the people that live there feel very lost and starved for community.
It's polluted by ego, financial desperation and chemicals on our apples.
I found it really hard to make friends, really genuine connections.
Making connections in the spiritual community felt like a working opportunity and business transaction.
People in the spiritual community are exploited for financial gain, trauma is a selling tactic.
Attending gatherings is financially inaccessible.
Offering is financially inaccessible. I would have to pay to rent the space or I wouldn't get paid in money.
We are surrounded by huge mansions, tons of land, farms and fresh grown food yet my friends are living in their cars, struggling to make rent, and feed themselves.
What can we do to spark change? It starts with you. Really sink in to your values, what makes you feel alive, what are you passionate about? Why do have to charge money for your spiritual healing event, what is the motive?
I truly believe if you're working in the healing community, money isn't an honorable exchange. The expression you see on people's faces is, the continuous engagement and community being made is.
If you need to make money, offering events by donation is where I found my happy balance, people can pay what they want, or pay nothing at all, this offers choice, accessibility and no pressure.
