☀️ Tick season is here and they are out in full force.
I had my first tick bite of the year this week, which was a great reminder that daily tick checks really do matter.
Daily checks are always important, but they’re especially important after walks, hikes, trail rides, barn chores, and time spent in long grass or wooded areas.
One of my favourite quick tricks? A lint roller! 🕷️
I keep one handy and use it on myself and the boys 🐶 after being outside. It’s fast, easy, and helps pick up loose ticks before they have a chance to attach. Even better, the adhesive traps them securely so you’re not chasing a tiny tick around trying to get rid of it.
A lint roller is not a replacement for a thorough tick check, but it can be a great first step before you do a hands on inspection.
If you find an attached tick:
✔ Remove it as soon as possible using fine tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool
✔ Grasp it as close to the skin as possible and pull straight out with steady pressure
✔ Clean the area with soap and water or an antiseptic
✔ Save the tick if possible or take a clear photo
✔ Monitor the bite site and your health over the following weeks
✔ Contact your healthcare provider if you develop symptoms such as a rash, fever, fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, or joint pain
Check yourself.
Check your kids.
Check your dogs.
Check your horse.
Check those hard to see spots.
A few minutes now can save a lot of trouble later.
Has anyone else found their first tick of the season yet? 👇🐾🐴
