The Lorraine Hedtke quote above is one of my favourites.

There can be this expectation that you’re supposed to move on and forget your loved one after they die. But this doesn’t have to be your approach.

We can bring them forward with us and have a relationship with them. It definitely won’t be the same, but by sharing their stories, wisdom, and values, we continue to keep their light in the present world.

If you’ve experienced pregnancy loss, all kinds of emotions can come rushing in when you see your next positive test result.

Hope. Apprehension. Sadness. Excitement. Anger. Guilt.

Giving voice to these complex feelings can help you sort through them and help you feel lighter. Try journaling, talking to someone you trust, or booking an appointment with me, and we can explore your experience in a safe space.

You are not alone.

Did you know that you can claim therapy receipts on your income tax? After every session with me, you will receive an official receipt that you can use as proof of expense.

If you don’t have insurance, you can claim the full amount as a Medical Expense Tax Credit.

If you have insurance, you can only claim the amount not covered by your claim.

Visit the Canada Revenue Agency website, which has a breakdown of eligible medical practitioners by province. If you’re curious if our sessions together qualify, don’t be afraid to ask.

No matter if you are facing the death anniversary of a loved one in the coming weeks or months, the dread that may creep in can feel debilitating.

Swipe through the images above for some strategies to support yourself before, during, and after the day. It is normal for emotions to intensify around the date itself, not just for a single 24 hours.

I have focused on learning and implementing many types of therapeutic modalities into my practice to ensure there are options for us to work through.

There is no right or wrong way to approach your sessions. I begin by talking about a modality and the activities associated with it, and you provide your consent for us to begin. You can always change your mind, and we can try another modality or stop and focus on regulating your nervous system—you are in the driver’s seat of your healing.

Having different modalities to choose from is just one way there can be so much hope found in attending therapy regularly. To start working together, book a free 20-minute consultation with me, and I can speak more about the various approaches.

I’ve spoken about how my yoga practice helps ground me, and I recently did an online yoga class related to grief, which I found very inspiring! The combination of movement and guidance felt like a balm.

One insightful concept the instructor introduced me to was naming tears as “liquid salt therapy.” I thought this renaming was beautiful because I see tears as an expression of grief. Sometimes emotions are so big that they have nowhere to go and tears are the release that articulates the intensity of these feelings.

I wanted to pass this idea along to you in case you needed to hear it.

As a therapist who offers couples sessions, I want to provide some comfort that, even for my husband and me, it is challenging to carve out time just for us!

Sometimes we’re successful, cooking together once a week or having a spontaneous evening drive together on the weekend. And sometimes it looks very different!

However, at the end of the day we are both making an effort to connect in big and small ways. And that matters a lot! Try having an honest conversation with your partner about what fills your respective cups, and then try to see if you can integrate more of that for each other.

Processing trauma means making sense of emotions, memories, and experiences. While this isn’t a straightforward process, working through your trauma may create healing, feelings of acceptance, and even empowerment.

And therapy can be a very effective tool to help you do so!

Working with a registered psychotherapist, like myself, means you can gradually and safely start to re-examine your experiences and how they are impacting your life, at your own pace.

If you’re curious about how therapy might support you, book a 20-minute free consultation with me using the link in my bio.

One modality that I include in my practice is called Solution-Focused Therapy/Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. This can be a very empowering therapy model for people who find themselves motivated to work toward goals.

The reason why this approach can be beneficial is that it can create:
🪶 hope as you consider and plan for your future;
🪷 confidence as you reach small goals; and
🕯️ positivity as you focus on problem-solving ideas.

Book a 20-minute free consultation with me—link in my bio—and we can talk through this approach together!

Just because we’ve turned the calendar doesn’t mean the grief, pain, and loss from last year disappears.

The first few months of a new year may arrive with a lot of messaging around fresh starts, a new you, and goal setting. And that may make you feel overwhelmed or maybe like you’re already failing because you feel as if you can’t let go.

I want you to know that you don’t have to become a newer, shinier version of yourself, but you also don’t have to feel stuck. Reach out, and let’s find the best approach to support you in therapy sessions together.
