Congratulations to Nick VanKampen for being awarded PEINPA’s 2025/2026 Nurse Practitioner of the Year!

Nick also serves on PEI Nurses’ Union’s Executive Council and he is such a valuable ambassador for NPs across Prince Edward Island!

Congratulations to our 2025/2026 PEINPA Nurse Practitioner of the Year: Nick VanKampen!

This award recognizes the Nurse Practitioner who is a member of the PEINPA and is nominated by their peers to have shown outstanding contributions in advancing the NP profession.

Nick is an exceptional practitioner who has been mentoring students and providing valuable learning experiences for a number of years. He has been a strong advocate for the NP role, and we are grateful for his time spent volunteering for subcommittees and being part of the 1st NP local executive.

He has his own panel of patients in Cornwall, where he provides an expert level of care and compassion to everyone who walks through the door.

We are so thrilled to present this award to him today. Congrats Nick - thank you for everything you do!

Before you embark on this exciting next step for your family, we want to make sure you Know Your Rights!

📄Inform your manager by your 20th week of pregnancy—or as soon as possible for adoption.
📄You can take leave for up to 78 weeks. Consult the EI maternity and parental benefits website for your options: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/ei-maternity-parental.html
📄Ask your manager/HR if you qualify for salary top-up.
📄Keep in mind that you will continue to accumulate seniority during your leave based on your regularly scheduled work hours.

This phrase is so much more than just a tagline for PEI Nurses' Union's new brand— It's a rallying cry for all our union members. June is Pride Month in Canada and PEINU is proud to surround our 2SLGBTQIA+ members and commit to standing up for inclusive workplaces for everyone.

To accomplish this, we all need to work together, speak up against discrimination and build workplaces where all our members feel welcomed, valued, and free to be their authentic selves.

Over the last few days, 21 PEINU members joined their colleagues from across Atlantic Canada for 3 days of learning, collaboration, and self-improvement at Eastern Labour School.

Hosted this year by New Brunswick Nurses Union (NBNU-SIINB) in Fredericton, Eastern Labour School is a biennial event bringing together members from all four of Atlantic Canada’s provincial unions to strengthen our union knowledge, leadership skills and advocacy efforts, in turn bringing that knowledge and those skills back to our own locals and worksites.

Thank you NBNU for hosting this year's Labour School and thank you to everyone who participated!

📢Please join us in welcoming Rubylyn Tabangin as PEINU’s new Labour Relations Officer!

A passionate and dynamic HR professional with over 20 years of experience, Rubylyn brings a wealth of knowledge in building and enhancing HR departments. With a career that spans both in Canada and over a decade in the Middle East, she had the opportunity to support diverse workforces and develop strong cross-cultural communication skills along the way. Her recent work focused on Psychological Safety, Mental Wellness, DEI, Duty to Accommodate, and Project Management.

As Labour Relations Officer, Rubylyn will provide support to our members through guidance and expertise on their employee rights and the Collective Agreement.

✨ Fun Fact: In her spare time, Rubylyn enjoys relaxing with TV shows and exploring museums and historic churches.
