We have some exciting news, we have been offered a long term space at PEERS Alliance, 250b Queen St in downtown Charlottetown. There is lots of parking in the adjacent parking lot and we’ll be using the rear entrance with the rainbow bridge.
We won’t be moving until July so this months schedule will show no changes. Going forward we’ll be offering a bi monthly meditation night on the second and fourth Monday. Either Micheal or I will be teaching the summer sessions. We will have more details as the months unfold.
We’ll continue with some guest teachers in the fall.
July 13th and 27th
August 10th and 24th

Looking forward to next week’s mediation,
Join us PEI Group Meditation (Susana Rutherford & Michael Gaudet) at Simmons Sports Arena, multipurpose room (170 North River Road) Monday May 11th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for guided Meditation practice.

The months session will be facilitated by Teri Hall of the Kundalini Tradition. Teri has been a yoga & meditation teacher for many years and has practiced various styles for over 50 years. She has always been drawn to yoga’s ability to help calm her mind, strengthen her body and most of all, to connect to her inner self. She integrates pranayama (breathing techniques), mindfulness and meditation into her classes and teaches with wisdom, dedication and passion. The meditation practice will be taken from the kundalini yoga tradition.

Our intention is to build a space where both secular, spiritual or religious meditators can practice, build community and learn from each other.
All levels of meditators welcome including beginners. Dress comfortably, chairs provided but if you want to bring your own mat, cushion etc. you are welcome to do so.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility are important to us, for further information on this or any other questions please contact Susana, [email protected] or Michael [email protected]

PEI Group Meditation March News 2026
Hello,
Susana here, just a reminder that PEI Group Meditation has moved this month to our new location at Simmon’s Arena in the multipurpose room, I70 North River Rd. Monday March 16th at 7 p.m.
I’ll be leading a grounding body scan so be prepared for a relaxing event. If you want to bring a mat or blanket this can be a lying down meditation.
I also wanted to share some resources with you. I use and recommend an app that is fully free and has over 300,000 free guided meditations. The app is called Insight Timer and is available as both iOS and android versions. I am teacher on the app, Susana Rutherford so you can follow me there as well as many luminaries of the meditation world in hundreds of different types of teaching. https://insighttimer.com/
Micheal has introduced me to Compassion U, a free online course in CBCT Cognitive Based Compassion Training. This course is available in a few versions and is in either an app or desktop version, https://compassionu.app/
I usually have a least one book in my bedside table on the topic of Mindfulness and this month I finished reading the classic from teacher Jack Kornfield, A Path With Heart: A Guide Through the Perils and Promises of Spiritual Life. I’ve been dipping in and out of this for a few years and finally read it from cover to cover. Jack Kornfield puts much of the wisdom of Buddhist psychology into easy-to-read contemporary language. Also, on my recently read pile is Neurodharma by Rick Hanson. Dr. Hanson dives deep into the neurobiology of Mindfulness and explores what is happening on a cellular level in our minds as we practice. This is heavy on the science but fascinating to me. Dr. Hanson also include straight forward mindfulness exercises for practice.

This morning I read the following passage and wanted to share with our group. The passage is from a series of books from the Meta Forest Monastery - Meditations. I quote:

So, think about the environment you’re creating in your mind, the environment that allows the mind to settle down, the values that allow it to settle down, so that when disturbing thoughts arise you don’t immediately go with them. You can look at them and say, “That’s not a thought I want to follow.” When you’re used to saying No to things already, it’s easier to say No to them when you’re sitting here with your eyes closed focusing on the breath. And vice versa: When you’ve got your eyes open you can remind yourself, “I’ve been able to overcome this thought before. I’ve been able to say No to it, and I haven’t died.”

This way you can maintain your mental health, and the meditation really does become an ongoing process of developing — developing the skillful qualities you want: mindfulness, alertness, a sense of calm, a sense of wholeness and wellbeing in body and mind. “The mind well trained brings happiness.” It needs to be well trained because it’s always doing things, so make sure that what it’s doing is in line with where you want to go.”
