**Therapist's Corner**

Sometimes healing feels like moving forward.

And sometimes, an unexpected challenge can bring up old emotions, familiar patterns, or feelings you thought you had already worked through.

That can leave you wondering, “Why am I back here again?”

But experiencing a difficult moment doesn't erase the progress you've made.

Healing isn't a straight line. There may be detours, setbacks, and moments when you need to pause and find your footing again.

Try to meet those moments with curiosity and compassion rather than seeing them as failures.

You haven't lost all your progress because you're having a hard day.

Sometimes getting back on track is part of the journey, too.

Grief isn't something you simply check off a list and move past.

Sometimes processing grief means talking about what happened. Sometimes it means sitting with feelings you don't fully understand yet. Sometimes it means allowing yourself to remember, cry, feel angry, laugh, or have a day where you don't think about it at all.

And sometimes grief shows up when you least expect it.

A song.
A date on the calendar.
A familiar place.
A conversation.
A smell.
A milestone you thought would look different.

Having a difficult day doesn't mean you've gone backwards.

Grief can change over time, but that doesn't mean the loss becomes unimportant. It can mean you're learning how to make space for what happened while continuing to move forward.

There is no one “right” way to grieve.

If you're grieving, be gentle with yourself. You don't have to rush the process.

**Therapist's Corner**

Parenting can bring up some BIG emotions.

When you’re stressed, tired, touched out, overwhelmed, and asking your child for the tenth time to do something, it can be incredibly difficult to stay calm.

Many parents feel guilty after yelling or becoming frustrated with their children. They may wish they had responded differently or wonder why they couldn't regulate their emotions in that moment.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not a bad parent. You’re a human being who sometimes reaches their limit.

Being aware of those moments can be an opportunity for compassion, not criticism. We can acknowledge what happened, consider what contributed to our frustration, repair when needed, and keep learning.

Parenting doesn’t require perfection. It requires connection, repair, and giving yourself room to grow, too. 🤍

Boundaries can be difficult, especially when you're used to being the person who says yes, keeps the peace, or takes care of everyone else.

Sometimes setting a boundary can bring up guilt, anxiety, or the fear that someone will be upset with you. And sometimes, someone will be disappointed. That doesn't necessarily mean your boundary is wrong.

A boundary isn't about making someone behave differently. It's about communicating what you are comfortable with, what you need, and what you are or aren't willing to participate in.

You can love someone and still have limits.
You can care about someone and still say no.
You can be kind without being constantly available.

If boundaries are something you struggle with, it can be helpful to get curious about what makes them feel difficult for you.

Which boundary feels hardest for you: saying no, asking for what you need, or letting someone be disappointed?

**Therapist's Corner**

Sometimes the thought of starting therapy comes with another question:

“How am I supposed to fit one more thing into my schedule?”

Therapy doesn’t necessarily mean adding another trip across town or trying to rearrange your entire day.

Depending on your needs and preferences, therapy may be available in person or virtually, allowing you to choose a format that feels comfortable and accessible for you.

For some, there’s something meaningful about sitting together in the therapy space. For others, being able to connect from the comfort of home makes therapy feel more manageable.

There isn’t one right way to do therapy. Finding an approach and format that works for you matters.

Long-term relationships can become part of how we understand ourselves.

Our routines, decisions, friendships, traditions, and even the way we picture our future can become intertwined with another person.

So when the relationship ends, you may find yourself asking:

Who am I now?
What do I want?
What does my life look like on my own?

There doesn't need to be an immediate answer.

Rebuilding your sense of self can be a gradual process of rediscovering what matters to you, what brings you joy, and what you want this next chapter to look like.

You are still here, and there is still room to discover who you're becoming.

Need assistance navigating these next steps? Jaclyn Newman Counselling is here for you.

When things get heavy, you don't need to escape your life. Instead, when things get heavy, reach out for support. Too often people thing they need to be "struggling enough" to access therapy, but the truth is, you can be at any stage of functioning or struggling and access therapy. Whether you can barely get out of bed, or you're running marathons, you deserve support.

**Therapist's Corner**

Support doesn’t always come from one person.

Different people in our lives can support us in different ways.

Maybe you have someone you call when you need to vent. Someone who makes you laugh when you need a break. Someone you trust with the difficult conversations. Someone who will show up when you need practical help.

Take a moment to think about your circle.

Who can you count on when you need emotional support?
Who helps you feel grounded?
Who can you turn to when you need practical help?
Who reminds you that you’re not alone?

And if you’re struggling to think of people you can turn to, remember that your circle doesn’t have to stay the same. Looking for opportunities to connect, whether through community groups, shared interests, volunteering, classes, or other local activities. This can be a starting point for building new connections and expanding your support network.

Building a support network isn’t about having a huge circle. It’s about having meaningful connections and knowing where you can turn when you need support.

There can be a complicated kind of grief that comes with watching someone you love age or change.

You may find yourself taking on responsibilities you never expected: managing appointments, making decisions, providing care, adjusting your own schedule, or becoming the person everyone turns to.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, you may be grieving the relationship you once had.

You can love your parent and feel frustrated.
You can be grateful and exhausted.
You can want to be there for your partner and still feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of caregiving.
You can know you're doing your best and still wish things were different.

These feelings don't mean you don't care.

Caregiving can take an emotional toll, and caregivers deserve support too, not just the person receiving care.

If you're navigating the emotional weight of caring for an aging parent, spouse, or loved one, you don't have to carry it silently.

Give yourself permission to acknowledge what this season is asking of you. 🤍
