🦋 PTSD & EMDR: Understanding How Healing Happens

When someone experiences trauma, the brain can sometimes become "stuck" processing the memory.

Instead of feeling like something that happened in the past, traumatic experiences can continue to feel as though they are happening right now. This can lead to symptoms such as:

⚡ Flashbacks
⚡ Nightmares
⚡ Anxiety or panic
⚡ Hypervigilance (always feeling on guard)
⚡ Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
⚡ Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain process traumatic memories in a healthier way.

During EMDR, clients are guided through structured exercises while focusing on a traumatic memory. This process helps the brain reprocess the experience so it becomes less emotionally overwhelming and more like a memory from the past rather than a current threat.

Many people find that after EMDR:
🌿 Distressing memories feel less intense
🌿 Triggers become more manageable
🌿 Negative beliefs about themselves begin to shift
🌿 They experience a greater sense of calm and control

Healing from trauma doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It means reducing the power it has over your life today.

If you're struggling with the effects of trauma, know that support is available and healing is possible. 💜

☀️ A Gentle Reminder for Monday Morning

You do not have to have everything figured out today.

You do not need to tackle the entire week before breakfast.

Take a breath.

Focus on the next right step.

Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to be productive, successful, and "on top of everything" that we forget we're human beings—not machines.

This week, try offering yourself the same compassion you would offer a friend.

🌿 One task at a time.
🌿 One conversation at a time.
🌿 One breath at a time.

Progress doesn't have to be perfect to be meaningful.

As you begin a new week, ask yourself:

💭 What is one thing I can do today to support my well-being?

Wishing you a week filled with growth, resilience, and moments of peace.

🦋 Sunday Reset

As the weekend comes to a close, take a moment to check in with yourself.

You don't need to have everything ready for Monday.

You don't need to solve next week's problems today.

Instead, ask yourself:

💜 What went well this week?
💜 What am I proud of?
💜 What do I want to carry forward into the new week?
💜 What can I let go of?

A gentle reminder:

🌿 Rest is productive.
🌿 Progress is not linear.
🌿 You are allowed to start again tomorrow.

If Sunday evenings tend to bring feelings of stress or anxiety, know that you're not alone. Try focusing on what is within your control today and leave the rest for tomorrow.

Take a deep breath.

You've made it through another week.

🦋 Mindfulness is not about emptying your mind.

It's about gently bringing your attention back to the present moment, again and again.

So often, our minds are pulled into yesterday's regrets or tomorrow's worries. Mindfulness invites us to pause and notice what is happening right now—with curiosity, compassion, and without judgment.

Today, try this simple exercise:

🌿 Take a slow breath in.
🌿 Notice five things you can see.
🌿 Notice four things you can feel.
🌿 Notice three things you can hear.
🌿 Notice two things you can smell.
🌿 Notice one thing you can taste.

You don't need to be perfect at mindfulness. You simply need to be present.

As we prepare for a new week, consider giving yourself permission to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the moment you are in.

💜 What is one thing you can do today to support your well-being?

🦋 Weekend Check-In

Before the weekend slips away, take a moment to check in with yourself.

Not your to-do list.
Not your responsibilities.
Not what everyone else needs.

You.

How are you really doing?

What does your mind and body need today?

❤️ Rest
🌿 Nature
☕ Quiet
👥 Connection
🎨 Creativity
🚶 Movement

Sometimes the most important thing we can do for our mental health is pause long enough to listen.

🦋 Your nervous system speaks before your words do.

Many people think stress only affects their thoughts, but stress also affects the body.

When our nervous system is overwhelmed, we may become anxious, irritable, exhausted, disconnected, or emotionally reactive. These responses are often the body's attempt to protect us.

The goal isn't to never feel stressed—it's to recognize the signs and learn how to gently bring ourselves back to a place of safety and balance.

💬 Which sign of nervous system overload do you notice most often?

Sometimes healing happens through words, and sometimes it begins with simply feeling safe and supported.

Whether you're feeling nervous about your first appointment, working through a difficult topic, or just need a little extra comfort, Pookie and Hallie are here to help.

Which one would you choose to sit with during a session—🐼 Pookie the Panda or 🐮 Hallie the Highland Cow?

☀️ Antidepressants & Hot Weather: What You Should Know

As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that some antidepressant medications can affect how your body regulates heat or increase sensitivity to hot weather.

If you take antidepressant medication, consider these summer safety tips:

💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
🧢 Wear light clothing and seek shade when possible
🌡️ Be aware of signs of overheating, such as dizziness, headache, nausea, rapid heartbeat, or confusion
❤️ Check in with yourself—heat can impact mood, energy, and overall well-being

Most importantly, never stop or adjust your medication without first speaking with your healthcare provider.

Taking care of your mental health also means taking care of your physical health.

📣 PTSD Awareness Month | June

🌿 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is more common than many people realize. PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, and it affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness.
It is not something someone can simply "get over."
It is a natural response to overwhelming experiences.

People living with PTSD may experience:
✨ Flashbacks or intrusive memories
✨ Nightmares or difficulty sleeping
✨ Anxiety, panic, or feeling constantly on edge
✨ Avoidance of people, places, or situations
✨ Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe
✨ Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected

Healing is possible. With the right support, people can learn to manage symptoms, process trauma, and reclaim their lives.

💜 This PTSD Awareness Month, let's replace judgment with understanding, stigma with compassion, and silence with support.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reaching out for help is a sign of strength.
