Do you know what to look for when it comes to skin & nail fungus?

Common signs of skin fungus of the feet are: itching, burning, red, flaky, or peeling skin, dry or scaly patches & cracks between the toes.

Common signs of nail fungus are: thickened nails, a yellow, white, or brown discolouration, brittle and often crumbly nails, and nails that lift away from the nail bed itself.

It is important to practice good foot hygiene, cleanse the feet daily and ensure they are dried thoroughly, wearing breathable foot wear when possible, & ensuring to change socks regularly.

Can you feel the difference between an ingrown nail vs and involuted nails? — while there is a distinct difference, often times clients complain of an ingrown nail and it’s actually involuted.

An ingrown nail causes sharp, localized stabbing pain with severe inflammation, while an involuted nail causes a deep, generalized squeezing pressure along the side of the toe.

However, when you do not know what to look for they can easily be mistaken.

An ingrown nail is a painful condition where the corner or side of a nail grows into the surrounding soft flesh. It most commonly affects the big toe, causing redness, swelling, and tenderness, and can often lead to bacterial infections.

An involuted nail — if not treated — can often lead to an ingrown nail as the nail curves into the surrounding tissue.
