Have you ever been shown *this* arch support trick? 👣
You hold your arms out while someone pushes down.
Then they put arch supports under your feet, repeat the test and suddenly…
**You’re stronger.**
It’s impressive. It’s convincing. And yes, you may actually *feel* stronger.
But does it prove you need arch supports?
**No.**
I have conversations with patients several times a week about arch supports they’ve been encouraged to purchase after demonstrations on cruise ships, at trade shows, fairs and other sales events.
After one of those conversations this week stayed with me all day, I decided it was time for a little **buyer beware**.
In our newest blog, I explain:
👣 Why that “strength test” appears to work
👣 What those colourful pressure maps actually tell us
👣 Why we don’t routinely use pressure mapping at The Foot Health Centre
👣 Why not everyone needs arch supports or custom orthotics
👣 And why wearing an orthotic you don’t need isn’t necessarily harmless
Arch supports and custom orthotics can be incredibly helpful, **when they’re appropriate and properly prescribed.**
Before you spend hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars based on an impressive sales demonstration, know what you’re actually being shown.

And FYI… my patient did **not** buy the arch supports on the cruise. 😉
