🚨 Hands-On First Aid Training at Stadtke Plumbing & Heating!

Northumberland CPR Training recently had the opportunity to train the team at Stadtke Plumbing & Heating in a 1-Day Heart & Stroke Basic First Aid Level C with AED course.

The day included plenty of practical, hands-on training and realistic scenarios designed to help participants feel confident responding when an emergency happens.

➡️ Log roll — practicing how to safely turn a patient when a spinal injury is suspected.
➡️ Bleeding control — practicing bandaging techniques for a serious arterial bleed.
➡️ CPR & AED — putting CPR skills into action and practicing AED application during a cardiac emergency.

🚑 Infant Rescue Breaths with a Pocket Mask 🚑

In this 30-second demo, learn the proper technique for giving rescue breaths to an infant using an infant pocket mask with a one-way valve. Quick action and correct technique can make a critical difference in an emergency.

🚨 Important WSIB First Aid Training Changes Coming June 22, 2026 🚨

Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is launching a modernized First Aid Program on June 22, 2026.

Some of the key changes include:
✅ New course names:
• Emergency First Aid ➡️ Basic First Aid
• Standard First Aid ➡️ Intermediate First Aid

✅ Training aligned with the latest national CSA standards

✅ Enhanced quality and consistency across all approved training providers

✅ More flexibility for Intermediate First Aid recertification

The good news? Any valid WSIB-approved certificates issued before June 22, 2026, will remain valid until their expiry date.

A powerful moment from our private group training session in Northumberland County ❤️

Today, a father and child team practiced 2-person child CPR and learned how to confidently use an AED together. One of the biggest takeaways? AEDs are designed to be SIMPLE, safe, and easy to use — even a child can follow the voice prompts and help save a life.

Following current Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada guidelines for child 2-person CPR:
🫀 One rescuer provides continuous chest compressions at a depth of about 1/3 the chest depth
🫀 The second rescuer provides breaths using a 15:2 compression-to-breath ratio
🫀 Rescuers switch roles every 2 minutes to reduce fatigue
🫀 Early AED use is critical — turn it on, follow the prompts, apply pads, and stand clear when advised

These hands-on scenarios help families build confidence, teamwork, and real-life emergency skills that could make all the difference before EMS arrives.
