—that is the question. 😂
More specifically: Are you actually “p*eing out lymph” after Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
This is something people are actively searching—and no, lymph doesn’t simply get “flushed out” of your body during treatment.
Here’s what actually happens:
Fluid surrounding your tissues enters tiny lymphatic vessels and becomes lymph. It then travels through a network of vessels and lymph nodes, where it is filtered, before eventually being returned to your bloodstream near the base of your neck.
Once it rejoins your blood circulation, your kidneys continue doing their usual job of regulating fluid, balancing electrolytes and filtering waste from your blood.
So, are you “p*eing out lymph”?
Not directly. Manual Lymphatic Drainage does not push lymph into your bladder.
Some of the water contained within lymphatic fluid may eventually leave your body as urine—but only after the lymph has returned to your bloodstream and your kidneys have determined what your body needs to keep or eliminate.
This is why some people notice more frequent urination after MLD, especially if they were retaining fluid beforehand. Others may not notice any difference at all.
Both responses can be normal. Needing to p*e more is not proof that the treatment “worked,” and not urinating more does not mean that nothing happened.
Does more urination mean you’re “detoxing”?
Not in the way social media often describes it.
MLD does not squeeze mysterious toxins from your tissues or send them rushing into your bladder. Your body already has several systems working continuously to process and remove waste.
Your lymphatic system collects excess tissue fluid, proteins, cellular debris and other materials. Your lymph nodes help filter that fluid and support immune surveillance. Your liver processes many substances within the blood, while your kidneys filter the blood and produce urine.
These systems work together—but they do not create the dramatic “toxin flush” often shown online.
If you urinate more after MLD, it may simply reflect your body regulating fluid after some of it has moved from the tissues, through the lymphatic system and back into your bloodstream. Your hydration, medications, hormones and usual bathroom habits may also affect what you notice.
More urine does not equal more toxins removed—and it is not a scorecard for your treatment. So no, you don't have keep score.
