To my fellow lymphatic drainage therapists - you already know. To everyone else - it’s time you do too. These are the hills I die on in this field, every single day.
✨ Light pressure IS work - deeper pressure is NOT better. Unlike traditional massage, lymphatic drainage uses light pressure to mobilize the lymphatic system, which lies directly beneath the skin.
✨ This is not a detox trend, it’s legitimate medical therapy.
LDT is a powerful tool for people whose lymphatic system is compromised from surgery, illness, or injury.
✨No, it will not make you lose weight.
LDT can reduce swelling and give the temporary appearance of slimmer, tighter skin — however, there is no evidence that it causes weight loss.
✨ Sequence and direction matter, you can’t just wing it.
LDT follows a specific sequence, starting with the main drains in the body, so that congested lymph fluid has somewhere to go.
✨ Post-surgical lymphatic work is not optional, it is the recovery.
Depending on the surgery, lymph nodes may have been removed. This can cause congestion in limbs when the lymph nodes left behind are overworked. As a LDT therapist, I can redirect congested lymph fluid so swelling goes down.
If any of these resonates with you, you’re in the right place! 💕
