What’s been happening on the homestead this past couple of weeks? Well, we got the meat birds (sorry, no pics lol), we hatched out a bunch of layer chicks and I believe we have 32 boys out of 47 chicks! But that’s what I wanted! A lot of boys to be processed for the dogs 😋. We had a sap sucker doing a lot of damage so we took those trees down as they were precarious anyways. Much to close to the little barn and leaning every which way. I found an egg layed in our wood cook stove lol. We had a bear come for a visit and a fox came and took a few of my layer hens. 😒 The blackflies and mosquitos have showed up which is a great joy when out feeding and watering the gardens and critters (in my best sarcastic voice). On a good note, we’ve had a few cloudy days and some rain to fill our watering totes! I also made a couple of sets of Birthday cookies!! They were fun to do!! One set for a 4 yr old and one set for a 75 year old! 😁🎈❤️

Time to empty the freezer again of saved onion/celery ends/skins and bones to make bone broth! 🤗.

We got our fluffy butts today! 25 meat bird chicks 🥰. They’re SOOOO CUTE! 🐥🤗 We decided to put them in the basement for a few days instead of the trailer until it warms up a bit outside. It was below zero this morning with a dusting of snow. 🥴
Next week my layer eggs in the incubator will be hatching! I can’t wait. 🥰🐥

Hubby was out and about in the yard today! Moving snow out of our outside garden area and into the greenhouse! It’s quite dry in there so might as well help the snow melt! (Remember what happened to Frosty?? ☃️ lol). We also had a lot of snow damage to our cherry and apple trees we planted 2 years ago. 5/6 feet of snow is HEAVY. The one apple tree got the worst of the damage. Almost every branch broken.
He also got the rain gutter water tote set up on the back greenhouse. It’s been used by the chickens all winter. It’s almost time to move them into the barn so we can get it ready to put plants in there!
You can also see the trees he dropped in the fall and the river of water from the snow melt. The snow is getting closer to being gone until October/November.

Had a coffe on the deck and enjoyed the sunshine and view this morning! First outdoor morning coffee this year. Listened to the chickens foraging, the various birds chirping their happy songs, a wood pe**er pecking and a grouse drumming. ❤️ And no bugs lol.
