HOW IS IT AUGUST ALREADY? ☀️
Every year, I tell myself the same thing…
This is going to be our summer.
I’m going to spend more time with family.
Go to the beach.
Take a few spontaneous day trips.
Sit outside longer.
Relax more.
And stop feeling like I always need to be accomplishing something.
And then somehow… August arrives.
I have carved out some of those moments this summer, and I’m grateful for every one of them. But if I’m being truthful, I can also feel time speeding by.
This is an especially full season for us. The Body Bar is busy, we’re already preparing for our final quarter (yes… that includes Christmas 😳), we have our boutique, our online business, and we manufacture the products we sell.
And on the personal side, our daughter is getting married in September. 🤍
There are days when my mind starts running through everything that still needs to be done—and I notice something almost immediately.
My breathing changes.
It gets shallower. My shoulders creep up. And suddenly I’m mentally three weeks ahead instead of being where I actually am.
That has become my reminder to come back to myself.
I use my breathing techniques. I slow things down. And most evenings, I try to carve out a little pocket of time that belongs only to me.
Usually the house is quiet. My husband has gone to bed. I’ll journal or reflect on the day. Sometimes it’s a cup of tea. Sometimes it’s cuddling with my dogs.
And sometimes wellness looks suspiciously like a chocolate chip cookie. 🍪😂
Nothing elaborate. Nothing that needs to be checked off another list.
Just something that makes me feel calm.
I think sometimes we imagine “self-care” has to be a whole afternoon, a getaway or another thing we need to schedule.
Maybe it doesn’t.
Maybe it’s 15 quiet minutes before bed.
A walk without your phone.
Sitting at the beach for an hour.
Calling someone you love.
Taking three deep breaths when you notice yourself rushing.
So, before August disappears too…
What are you still hoping to make time for this summer?
And maybe more importantly…
What is one little thing you do just for YOU when life starts feeling too full?
I’d genuinely love to hear. You might just give someone else an idea they need today. 🤍
