The principle in this video is Aparigraha (non-grasping) one of the five Yamas in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

One thing I didn’t say in the video: in the yogic tradition, Aparigraha is considered the practice that makes fearlessness possible. Patanjali says that when non-grasping becomes steady, you gain insight into the “how and why” of your own life. Because everything you cling to is something you are afraid to lose, and the moment you stop clinging, that particular fear has nowhere left to live.

So if you want a small practice this week: notice the one thing you are gripping hardest right now. And just loosen your hold by ten percent. Not all of it. Ten percent. See what opens.

We have more access to information than any humans in history. AI can answer almost anything in seconds. And yet anxiety, overwhelm, and a sense of being lost are at an all-time high.

When everything outside you has an answer, you stop developing the muscle that goes inward. The one that knows what is right for you before anyone else does. That muscle atrophies. Quietly. Until you realise you have been outsourcing your own life.

The nervous system was not built for this volume. The anxiety and the overthinking are not a character flaw. They are a system overloaded.

Information is not wisdom. The most radical thing you can do right now is sit with a question and wait for the answer that is already in you.

Have you noticed this too? Or am I totally wrong?

When life gets hard…like really hard…the mind reaches for “why me?” immediately. And I understand that. But here is what I learned: it is an unanswerable question. And the mind asking it is not looking for an answer. It is looking for someone to blame.

What gets you through is not a reason. It is a practice. The willingness to feel what is happening without running from it, but to be present with the discomfort long enough to let it move through instead of harden into identity.

The question is not why is this happening to me. The question is who do I become on the other side of it.

If you can’t take the heat… you know what they say. 😏

Built a yoga studio that teaches the whole practice, not just the poses. Created a space where people come in carrying the week and leave feeling like themselves again.

It took years, a lot of philosophy books, an amazing husband who matches my passion for yoga and community, and a toddler who has now seen more downward dogs and Ujjai breaths than most adults.

And we are just getting started.

Time to retire these. 😉

Low rise yoga pants making a comeback — hard no. Crystals where the Yoga Sutras should be. Yoga content that is ninety percent impressive bodies and zero percent explanation of what is happening in the mind. And the idea that yoga is for lean, flexible, string bean bodies — my ninety eight year old neighbour did yoga every day and looked like the jolliest Santa Claus alive. He was also one of the most grounded humans I have ever met. That is the practice working.

The biggest one though: wellness culture using yoga as a brand identity while quietly stripping out everything that makes it transformative. The philosophy, the Sanskrit, the inquiry, the discomfort. What is left is beautiful and completely hollow.

Jai and I grew up in real yoga. The kind with wisdom in the room and teachers who knew the poses were a doorway not a destination. We built Jai to protect that.

Come find out what the real thing feels like.

She raised someone who cannot teach a yoga class without also teaching you something about who you are. 🙏

Which, for the record, was not a skill anyone asked for. It just turned out to be the one people kept coming back for.

If you want to learn how to do this yourself, comment “240 YTT” and I’ll send you everything about the accredited 240-hour Yoga Teacher Training Jai and I are leading at Coastal College of BC. 👇

This is the cheat code they don’t put in the brochure.

The yoga brochures all say the same thing. Flexibility. Stress relief. Community. Which…sure. But also tells you nothing about what or how it actually works.

So here it is.
1. Don’t wait until you’re flexible to start.
2. Stop dreading the class you need the most.
3. And stop treating the poses as the point.

The pose is a conversation your body is having with your awareness. The breath is the language. The stillness at the end is where the actual information lives.

That is the whole thing. Everything else is just preparation.

Comment “INTRO OFFER” and I’ll send you the info to our 30-day unlimited pass at Jai. $59. Come find out what twice a week actually does. 👇
