📢 BC Therapy Funding Update
You may have heard that changes are coming to therapy funding in British Columbia.
The current Autism Funding Program (AFP) and At Home Program (AHP) Extended Therapies funding are expected to transition to a new Children and Youth Disability Benefit in 2027.
What does this mean right now?
✅ AFP and AHP funding continue unchanged until March 2027
✅ Families currently receiving funding do not need to take any action at this time
✅ New applications are still being accepted
We know funding changes can feel overwhelming. Kidsense Therapy is monitoring updates closely and will continue sharing information as details become available.
If you have questions about your child’s services, we’re here to help.

We were so touched to receive this message from Orissa 💜

Orissa recently completed her OT placement with us, and reading her kind words meant so much to our team.

Supporting OT students as they learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. It’s a privilege to be part of their journey and to watch future occupational therapists develop their skills and confidence.

Thank you, Orissa, for your hard work, positivity, and dedication throughout your placement. We’re excited to see all the amazing things you’ll accomplish in your OT career!

What Does Pediatric OT Actually Do?

People ask what paediatric occupational therapists do all day.

Honestly?

We play.
We observe.
We ask a lot of questions.

We watch a child try to open a snack bag and notice which fingers aren’t quite coordinating.

We watch them walk into a room and see how their body responds to the noise and the light.

We listen to a parent describe their morning and start piecing together what the nervous system might be communicating.

Then we build a plan.

We teach kids skills.
We adapt environments.
We coach parents.
We collaborate with teachers.

We celebrate small wins loudly.

And sometimes, we just sit with a child who’s having a hard moment and help them find their way back to regulated.

It’s detailed, relational, connected, and deeply individualized work.

And the kids we work with?

They change.

Quietly, steadily, they change.

Struggling with pencil grip or hand fatigue? ✏️
Try using shorter crayons or broken pencils! This naturally encourages a more functional grasp and helps build hand strength for writing and drawing.
Small changes can make a big difference over time! 📍Coquitlam, BC

🌟 Myth vs. Fact: Occupational Therapy 🌟

🧩 Myth: “OT is only for little kids.”
✅ Fact: Occupational Therapy supports children of all ages — from toddlers to teenagers. Goals just look different!
• 🧸 Toddlers → play, sensory regulation, early independence
• 🎒 School-age kids → handwriting, focus, social skills
• 👩‍🎓 Teens → organization, stress management, daily living skills

Myth: “Occupational Therapy is just playtime.”
Fact: While OT often looks like play, every activity is carefully planned by a trained therapist to target specific developmental goals.

Whether it’s climbing, painting, squeezing playdough, or balancing on a beam — your child isn’t “just playing.” They’re improving:
🧠 Focus and attention
✋ Fine motor and coordination
😤 Self-regulation and coping skills
🧦 Sensory processing
🗣️ Communication and confidence

Children learn best through movement and hands-on experience. That’s why play is our most powerful tool — it’s natural, engaging, and therapeutic.

So yes, we do play — but with purpose. 🎯
And the results? More confidence. Less frustration. Stronger skills for everyday life.

✨ Welcome to our cozy sensory corner! ✨

This space is designed to help children feel safe, calm, and ready to learn. Whether it’s rolling on the soft barrel for deep pressure, hiding in the tent for a quiet moment, or engaging in playful movement, every element supports sensory regulation and motor skill development.

We believe play is powerful, and spaces like this help children thrive during their OT sessions.
