Attachment styles can influence how we communicate, connect, and experience closeness. Here's a quick overview...

• Secure attachment often allows people to express their needs, feelings, and boundaries openly.

• Anxious attachment may lead someone to hide parts of themselves to avoid rejection or maintain connection.

• Avoidant attachment may result in holding back emotions or needs to preserve independence and self-protection.

Authenticity grows when we feel safe enough to be seen as we truly are, not who we think others need us to be.

Healthy relationships support both connection and individuality.

Journal prompt:

In your closest relationships, where do you feel most free to be yourself, and where do you find yourself holding parts of yourself back?

What might those patterns be trying to protect?

Healthy communication isn't about finding the perfect words in the moment.

It's remembering that your partner isn't a mind reader... and, unfortunately, neither are you. 😅

Here are 5 ways you can help strengthen your communication in relationships:

1️⃣ Listen to understand, not to respond
Focus on what your partner is saying rather than preparing your next point.

Reflect back what you hear: "What I'm hearing is that you felt disappointed when..."

2️⃣ Use "I" statements
Express your feelings without blame.

For example: "I felt hurt when our plans changed" instead of "You never consider me."

3️⃣ Be curious rather than defensive
When conflict arises, ask questions to better understand your partner's experience.

Curiosity creates connection; defensiveness creates distance.

4️⃣ Address issues early
Small frustrations tend to grow when left unspoken.

Gentle, timely conversations are often easier than addressing built-up resentment later.

5️⃣ Regulate before communicating
When emotions are high, communication often becomes less effective.

Taking time to calm your nervous system can help you respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively.

Relationships don't need perfect communication. They need intentional communication.

Which of these five tips do you find most helpful in your own relationships?

Hi, I'm Laura! 🌼

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Psychotherapist who supports individuals and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges. I work with clients who feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them and are ready for meaningful, lasting change. 🌿

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in both evidence-based and experiential therapies. Laura integrates EMDR, Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS), parts work, and mindfulness to help clients move beyond coping and begin addressing the root of their experiences. ✨

For couples, I use an Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach, drawing from specialized training completed during my graduate studies at Saint Paul University. I support partners in building emotional safety, improving communication, and strengthening connection. 🪻

I offer a compassionate, attuned space where clients can better understand themselves, feel more grounded, and move toward a more authentic and connected way of living. 💚

Longer days and warmer weather naturally encourage movement, connection, and exploration.

It's a season that can remind us to step beyond our routines and reconnect with the world around us.

Sometimes healing happens not only in reflection, but also in living.

As you move outward this summer, consider:

✨ What brings you energy?

✨ What experiences do you want more of?

✨ How can you stay connected to yourself while embracing new opportunities?

Whether your summer is full of adventures or afternoons with nowhere to be, both can offer something valuable.

👇 What's one thing you're hoping to make more room for this summer?

Not every season needs to be full of plans, travel, or productivity.

For some nervous systems, quiet time is where repair happens.

Stillness is not absence; it is integration.

Permission granted. 🌻

You don't have to earn your rest.

What's one thing you're saying "no" to this summer?

Sometimes we don't realize we've handed our self-worth over to other people. Here are a few signs to look out for:

• You feel anxious when messages go unanswered
• You over-explain yourself to avoid misunderstanding
• You feel “okay” only after reassurance
• You struggle to trust your own decisions without input

Reminder: these are learned patterns, not flaws

These patterns often form in relationships where the connection felt uncertain or conditional.

They are understandable adaptations, not personal failures.
And they can soften over time.

Self-worth isn't something another person can give you. It's something you can build from within. 💛

It can help to communicate in ways that reduce conflict and protect your own boundaries, like...

1️⃣ Be clear and direct
Stick to facts and specific requests.

Example: "I need an answer by Friday so I can make a decision."

2️⃣ Set and maintain boundaries
State what you will and won't accept without lengthy explanations.

Example: "I'm willing to discuss this, but I won't continue if I'm being insulted."

3️⃣ Avoid getting pulled into arguments about who's right
Focus on the issue at hand rather than defending yourself against every criticism.

Example: "I understand that's your perspective. My concern is how we're going to solve this problem."

A simple formula is: Stay calm, stay factual, and stay firm.

This usually works better than trying to convince the person that they are wrong.

Save this for the next difficult conversation.

And if someone in your life is struggling to communicate with a person who shows narcissistic traits, share this with them.

As a child, joy often came naturally. We followed curiosity without questioning whether it was productive, useful, or worth our time.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to disconnect from the things that once made us feel alive.

Healing is not always about becoming someone new. Sometimes it is about remembering the parts of yourself that felt free, creative, playful, calm, or fully present before life became so heavy.

The things that brought you joy as a child may still hold clues about what your nervous system needs now.

Maybe it was music.
Maybe it was being outside.
Maybe it was drawing, building, dancing, reading, exploring, or simply feeling safe enough to play.

What used to make you lose track of time? ⏳

A lot of the routines we see online can make care feel like another thing to achieve perfectly. But sustainable care usually looks quieter than that. It often begins with small things you can actually return to consistently.

One grounding habit.

One supportive conversation.

One intentional pause in the middle of your day.

Small rhythms create stability over time.

You do not need to overhaul your entire life to start feeling more supported. Sometimes the most helpful question is simply:

“What feels manageable for me today?”

Which one feels most realistic for you right now? 💜
