Children's Treatment Centre - Cornwall Ontario

Children's Treatment Centre - Cornwall Ontario The Children’s Treatment Centre is a community based, community supported agency committed to the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

We provide free and immediate assessment and treatment to any child in need and that child’s family. OUR PROGRAMS

The Centre provides three (3) programs for children and adolescents. The First Program – operated by the Centre is for children and adolescents, five (5) to seventeen (17) years who have been physically and/or sexually abused. They receive assessment and counseling services to recover

from the traumatic effects of the abuse they suffered. The goal of our first program is to help children who have been sexually or physically abused overcome the psychologically negative impact of abuse through comprehensive, professional assessment and counseling at the Centre and continue to developmentally progress in a healthy manner, without the effects of abuse impeding this development. The Second Program – at the Centre provides assessment and counseling services to adolescents, twelve (12) to seventeen (17) years who have committed sexual offences against young children. Adolescent males, twelve to seventeen years old, who have committed sexual offences against younger children, will receive comprehensive clinical assessment to determine if they will benefit from treatment to prevent them from committing further sexual offences against young children. If the youth is considered able to benefit from treatment, he will receive counseling to prevent further sexual offending as an adult. The Third Program – is for children ages five (5) to eleven (11) years who are sexually reactive or sexually aggressive towards same age peers. In September 2011, as a result of request from various community agencies, the Centre started an additional service for sexually aggressive/sexually reactive children. This is a prevention program aimed at helping children between the ages of 5 and 11 years who have engaged in sexually aggressive behaviours towards peers.

ERIN’S LAW passed by the Ontario Legislature requires all elementary schools in Ontario to teach age-appropriate child sexual abuse and exploitation prevention education to students , as well as provide related training for school staff and parents. It aims to equip children with the knowledge to recognize, prevent and report abuse.

This important announcement was made by Minister Nolan Quinn at the 30th anniversary celebration of the Children’s Treatment Centre on June 19th by MPP Quinn. This means child abuse prevention is now part of the curriculum in all schools across Ontario.

Congratulations to Minister Nolan Quinn for his interest and perseverance in bringing this legislation to fruition.

Erin Merryn, a victim of child sexual abuse was the guest speaker at the Centre’s Bike-A-Thon Plus Kick-Off Breakfast in 2015.

Light in the Dark

At the Centre’s milestone 30th anniversary dinner on June 19th, MC Sean Adams offered a touching toast in tribute to all of you who have supported the Children’s Treatment Centre over the past 3 decades.

The main light in the room was turned off except for a single candle, when Sean read the following: “Each of you here this evening represents the community at large who made this day possible. You were this light for children who faced darkness as a result of their abuse, giving them hope and healing. Continue to be that light for the children who seek service from the Centre in the future.”

If you are reading this, you too have been that light and deserving of a toast. ❤️

WOO HOO! The 2026 Bike-A-Thon in support of the Children’s Treatment Centre is rolling throughout the month of June! 🎉🚴‍♂️
