I wrote another blog post today for those that struggle with alexithymia. It's something I only learned later in life that I too struggled with. For some of us it just takes time to process what is happening in our body but emotional language labels are not necessary. Learn more:

For those of you that discovered you were Autistic only after your child was diagnosed. Something I too experienced later in life that changed my parenting approach entirely.

Grief often shows up as feeling stuck, not just as sadness.
Stuck between what was and what cannot be.

This “stuckness” is the body slowing things down.
Grief pauses the nervous system until enough safety is sensed.
In grief, this safety means regulation, not comfort or positivity.

Safety can look like:

🪶Predictability instead of uncertainty

🪶Choice instead of pressure

🪶Slowness without judgment

🪶Rest without guilt

🪶Clear boundaries

🪶Being witnessed without explaining or performing

When safety is present, grief can move.
When it isn’t, the body holds still to prevent further loss.

Feeling stuck is protection but there is help to support you in this process. Visit:

Boundary setting is important, but it can feel deeply uncomfortable if you learned early that love came from people-pleasing or giving up your own needs.

When care was conditional, setting a boundary can trigger guilt, fear, or the sense that you’re being unkind. That reaction isn’t a flaw — it’s a learned survival response.

Boundaries are not about pushing people away.
They are about staying connected without abandoning yourself.

I support clients in gently unlearning people-pleasing patterns and building boundaries that feel respectful, grounded, and sustainable.

If setting boundaries feels overwhelming or confusing, counselling can help you understand *why* it feels this way and how to practice it safely.
