🧶 Calling all Nova Scotia quilters, knitters and crocheters – we need your help!

Thank you to the many generous people across Nova Scotia who create beautiful handmade blankets for patients receiving cancer care and/or palliative care at our facilities. Your kindness provides warmth and comfort when it's needed most.

We are once again accepting donations of:
🩵 Cancer Care: Lap-sized blankets ("lapghans")
🩵 Palliative Care: Single-bed size blankets

These blankets are distributed by volunteers to patients receiving treatment or waiting for appointments.

Suggested sizes:
• Lapghan: 32–48 in. (81–122 cm) wide × 35–40 in. (89–102 cm) long
• Single-bed blanket: Approximately 65 × 90 in. (165 × 228 cm)

There is no set pattern - choose one you love!

Drop-off locations:

📍 Halifax – Volunteer Services, Room 24, main floor, Centennial Building (Attention: Erin Fair), 1276 South Park Street. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

📍 Kentville – Valley Regional Hospital, Chipman Building, Room 622. 5 Chipman Drive. Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

📍 Sydney – Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Volunteer Services (next to Blood Collections, main entrance, Attention: Cyril MacDonald). 1482 George Street. Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

If the office is closed when you arrive, you may leave your donation outside the office door. It will be collected the next business day.

Tax receipts
A tax receipt may be issued for donated blankets with a material value of $50 or more (before taxes). Please include:
• A copy of your material receipts
• Your name and mailing address
• The date you dropped off your blanket

A message from Barbara Adams, Minister of Seniors and Long-term Care:

For many months, the Province has been working with long-term care providers in their negotiations for renewed collective agreements with CUPE. The Province has worked with these providers to put forward a strong, competitive package for employees in the sector.

It matches the deal already accepted by employees in 27 unionized long term care facilities and those working in home care and hospitals. Unfortunately in long-term care, CUPE has rejected the offer outright without giving members the opportunity to vote, despite accepting it for home care and hospitals. This is concerning, and I sincerely hope CUPE leadership reconsiders and lets members vote on a deal that impacts them directly.
