Lately, life has had me sitting in some pretty interesting seats.
One minute I’m watching athletes step on stage at a bodybuilding competition — tanned within an inch of their lives and surviving on chicken, rice, and pure stubbornness. Honestly though, the dedication is incredible. The discipline, the commitment, the endless hours in the gym… you can’t help but respect it.
The next minute, I’m at a fundraiser for a friend facing a serious medical condition. A hardworking, young-ish man who has spent his whole life providing for his family and now suddenly can’t. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned lately, it’s this: community still matters. Watching people rally around him with generosity, support, and kindness was enough to restore your faith in humanity for a minute. ❤️
Then there’s my “new normal” — spending more time helping my parents on the farm. I was always around growing up, but not like I am now. My parents are in their 70’s and 80’s and somehow still outworking people half their age. Farmers from sunrise to long-past-sunset. Tough as nails, generous to a fault, compassionate, stubborn, hardworking… and absolutely incapable of sitting down for more than seven minutes.
They make me want to do better every single day.
Now for the plot twist…
I’ve also been fired, gossiped about, blamed for things, misunderstood, and ignored by people I never expected it from. Some accusations were exaggerated, some had a grain of truth, and some were just plain nonsense. But I’ll always own my part. I’m not perfect. Never claimed to be. I’ve made mistakes, said the wrong things, trusted the wrong people, and occasionally operated life like a squirrel on espresso.
But I’ve always wanted to do better.
Maybe getting older isn’t about having it all figured out. Maybe it’s just learning what actually matters — good people, hard work, humility, laughter, and kindness when it would be easier to be bitter.
So here’s to becoming a little wiser, a little softer, and still just scatterbrained enough to keep life interesting. ✨
