Not every scalp needs a pep talk from your platelets! 😉

At NaturallyU, we take a whole-person approach to hair thinning. Before recommending PRP, we look at your health history, possible contributing factors, and whether a series of treatments is likely to be a good fit for your specific concerns.

Wondering whether scalp PRP may be right for you? Book a free 15-minute phone consultation with Laura to discuss your concerns and possible next steps.

When it comes to your skin, aging on our own terms means taking care of more than the surface.

A randomized-control study in 2023 found, after 16 weeks, both aerobic and resistance exercise improved skin elasticity and measures of dermal structure. Resistance training went a step further, increasing the actual thickness of the dermis, as measured by high-frequency ultrasound.

Strength training isn’t just building muscle — it may also be supporting how our skin functions and ages.

Follow along for more evidence-informed ways to support your skin, body & overall health as you age.

Why add microneedling to scalp PRP instead of using PRP alone?

➡ Part of the answer may be coverage.

With point-by-point PRP injections spaced approximately 1 cm apart, a 10 × 10 cm treatment area might involve around 100 injection points. The Dp4 device I use has a 16-needle cartridge and can create up to 1,920 controlled microchannels per second at its highest setting, allowing broader, more even coverage across the scalp.

But it is not simply about creating more punctures. Microneedling also provides its own mechanical healing signal, while PRP provides concentrated platelets and growth factors that may support existing, functioning hair follicles.

In simple terms: microneedling provides the mechanical stimulation and broader coverage, while PRP provides the biological signal.

Save this for later if you’re researching options for thinning hair—and feel free to reach out if you have any questions :)

Joint and injury care doesn’t always have to be limited to pain medication, physiotherapy, waiting it out, repeated cortisone injections, or possible surgery.

For some patients with mild-to-moderate arthritis in certain joints, or selected tendon and soft-tissue injuries, PRP may help improve pain and function using concentrated platelets from their own blood.

It isn’t right for every condition, and the evidence is stronger for some injuries than others. But it is an option worth knowing about and discussing alongside physiotherapy, strengthening and other conservative care.

PRP is an evolving area of joint and musculoskeletal care. It has been studied for well over a decade, but the evidence is not equally strong for every condition—and not all PRP preparations or treatment techniques are the same.

We’ll tell you where the evidence is stronger—and where it isn’t.

We stay current with the research, explain where the evidence is stronger and where it is still evolving, and help you make an informed decision based on your history, symptoms, goals, and the conservative treatments you have already tried.

Where is PRP best supported by the evidence?

➡️ Knee arthritis: Research continues to support PRP for mild-to-moderate knee arthritis when pain continues despite treatments like exercise, physiotherapy, weight management, or medications.

➡️ Frozen shoulder: Studies have found that PRP can help reduce pain and improve movement and function in people with frozen shoulder.

➡️ Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow: Cortisone often provides faster short-term relief, but PRP has been shown to provide better long-term improvement in pain and function.

➡️ Degenerative meniscus tears: One high-quality study found that PRP reduced the number of people who later needed knee surgery compared with placebo.

➡️ Achilles tendon pain and ankle arthritis: Current research has not shown the same consistent benefit, so PRP is not something we routinely recommend as a first-line treatment for these conditions.

➡️ MOVEMENT COMES FIRST: Exercise therapy, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy remain the foundation of joint and musculoskeletal care. For most people, an individualized rehabilitation program should be tried before considering PRP.

We want to work alongside your physiotherapist—not instead of them.

Ask your healthcare provider for a referral, or book directly with us. Referrals are welcome, but not required.

Note: with so much health misinformation online, you deserve to know where information we share comes from, sources will always be referenced.

What it looks like to hold the door open for another woman instead of guarding it ✨

Breaking into the field of Orthobiologics as a Registered Nurse came with no clear path to follow — because there really aren’t any.

It wasn’t a few simple phone calls and immediate access to learning. As an RN pursing mentorship in new territory, I expected the unanswered emails, unreturned phone calls, and doors that never fully opened.

“I’ve never heard of an RN doing these injections before.” I understood the hesitation. And not everyone has the capacity or desire to take on learners. But that didn’t exactly stop me from questioning or pursuing the path I had already decided I was on. (You can’t exactly give up after purchasing some very expensive equipment 😂).

Ultrasound-guided joint injections are a technically demanding skill to learn. But they are also considered relatively safe and low risk when performed with appropriate training and medical direction — especially compared to many other nursing skills already being practiced independently.

Everything in medicine carries risk.
Skills can be learned.
And healthcare evolves because people are willing to learn, adapt, and think beyond what has “always” been done.

There were moments where I questioned whether I belonged in these spaces at all.

But then there are people who quietly change the trajectory of your confidence.

When I first spoke with Shannon — who is now my medical director — she didn’t make me feel smaller. She didn’t question my passion or dismiss my vision because I’m an RN. Instead, she thanked me for wanting to bring this medicine into a rural community where access is limited.

also eagerly welcomed me into her clinic in Toronto, lining up patients and working alongside me while patiently supporting my growth and learning.

They saw possibility instead of limitation.

They saw a nurse wanting to make a difference — and understood that I couldn’t do it without the proper mentorship and support.

On Monday, I’ll be learning from NP at her clinic . But I already have a feeling she’s teaching me someth

Aging is more than skin deep.

Our experience with aging well, and what affects us most — is unique to every individual.

The needs and goals of a woman in her 30s may look very different from another in their 60s. An athlete may prioritize mobility and recovery, while another client may simply want to feel more confident, energized, or comfortable in their skin again.

What I love about regenerative medicine, aside from the fact that it uses the body’s own healing abilities, is that it can support the whole body in unique ways.

At NaturallyU, we offer whole-person support, including regenerative options for your skin, hair, and joints — meeting you where you are in your life journey, while helping you feel more at home in your body along the way.

We believe the treatments you invest your hard-earned money into should come with more than just the treatment itself.

They should include education, prevention, and long-term support tailored to you — your age, lifestyle, health, goals, and the factors most likely to impact your results over time.

Optimal outcomes are rarely created by one appointment alone.

Or by implementing one good habit.

That’s why our approach and the content we share — focuses not only on treatments, but also taking time to support the whole-person and the longevity of results through thoughtful, personalized care, and education along the way 🖤
