💜 We've spent decades talking about hot flashes.
But we've been missing the bigger story.

When most people think about menopause, one symptom usually comes to mind.

🔥 Hot flashes.

But after hearing from 6,553 women across Newfoundland and Labrador, it's clear we've been looking at menopause through far too narrow a lens.

The symptoms women reported most often weren't just hot flashes.

They were:

■ Brain fog / memory changes - 77.2%
■ Sleep disturbances - 74.9%
■ Fatigue - 70.3%
■ Mood changes / anxiety - 69.3%
■ Hot flashes - 67.7%
■ Joint pain or stiffness - 65.9%

These findings challenge one of the biggest misconceptions about menopause.

For many women, the symptoms affecting their daily lives aren't hot flashes at all.

They're struggling with memory and concentration, poor sleep, fatigue, anxiety, mood changes, and joint and muscle pain.

These symptoms can affect every aspect of a woman's life, from her ability to work, care for her family, and maintain healthy relationships to her confidence, physical health, and overall quality of life.

When these symptoms aren't recognized as part of the menopause transition, whether by women themselves or within our healthcare system, too many women spend months, or even years, searching for answers instead of receiving the care they need.

All because the conversation never started with one simple question:

Could this be menopause?

Recognizing the full picture of menopause isn't just about raising awareness.

It's about ensuring more women get answers sooner, receive evidence-based care, and access the support they deserve.

This is one of the key findings from the Menopause Experience of Care Survey, completed by 6,553 women across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Follow along over the coming weeks as we share the survey findings, and what they reveal about women's experiences, gaps in care, and opportunities for change.

Menopause is impacting Newfoundland and Labrador's workforce.

Our province-wide Menopause Experience of Care Survey, completed by 6,553 women across Newfoundland and Labrador, found that unmanaged menopause symptoms are affecting women's ability to remain in the workforce.

Here's what women told us:

• 11.8% have left the workforce because of unmanaged menopause symptoms.
• 8.4% are currently considering leaving.
• 18.4% have considered leaving but decided to stay.

Together, that means more than 1 in 4 women (26.8%) are at risk of leaving the workforce because they are not receiving the support they need.

For the women who remain at work, the challenges don't disappear.

Many described navigating:
• Difficulty concentrating and brain fog
• Increased mistakes or errors
• Reduced patience
• Strained workplace relationships
• Trying to perform while managing symptoms that often go unseen and unsupported

In addition, 25.7% of respondents reported missing workdays because of menopause symptoms.

Interestingly, 9.9% selected "Prefer not to answer" when asked about leaving the workplace. This suggests that, for many women, the impact of menopause at work remains a deeply personal and sensitive topic.

These findings point to an important opportunity.

Workplace education, supportive leadership, open conversations, and reasonable accommodations can help women remain healthy, productive, and engaged in their careers.

When employers understand menopause and create supportive workplace cultures, women don't have to choose between their health and their careers.

Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to change.

Together, we can build workplaces where experienced women are supported to thrive, not forced to leave.

This is one of the key findings from the Menopause Experience of Care Survey, completed by 6,553 women across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Last chance Ladies!!

Last chance Ladies!!

6,253 women. One powerful message.

When we launched this survey, our goal was ambitious: 10,000 voices.

Today, we’ve reached 6,253 completed surveys.

To every woman who has taken the time to share her experience, thank you. You’ve helped create something that leaders and professionals with experience in public engagement are telling us they’ve never seen before in our province when it comes to survey participation. Your voices have sent a clear message…menopause care matters, and women are ready for change.

But we’re not done yet.

Today is your last opportunity to help us get as close to 10,000 responses as possible.

If you’ve already completed the survey, there’s one more thing you can do that could make all the difference:

✨ Text a friend.
✨ Send the link to your sister, coworker, neighbour, or mom.
✨ Encourage just one more woman to have her voice counted.

Every single response strengthens the evidence we’re taking to decision-makers as we advocate for:

▪️Better access to evidence-based menopause care
▪️More education for healthcare providers
▪️A Provincial Centre of Excellence for Menopause Care

Women, I truly believe we’re witnessing something extraordinary.

You’ve shown what happens when women come together around a cause that matters. You’ve reminded us that our voices are powerful, and together, they have the ability to create real change.

Let’s finish strong.

The survey closes tonight at midnight (June 30).

If you haven’t completed it yet, now is the time.
