Last month, Reach Family Navigators, Priya Nair and Deepika Sheemar, attended the recent Welcoming Fair hosted by Delta Local Immigration Partnership. The event provides opportunities for individuals and organizations such as Reach to showcase their values and services for non-immigrant and immigrant members of the Delta community.

Priya and Deepika shared information about free parent opportunities like REACH Parent Peer Support Groups offered in English and Punjabi. They were grateful to participate in this initiative that making fostering connections in the community to help create a sense of belonging for all.

This year's highlights included a Filipino cultural performance by Anahaw Fil Can, a Punjabi cultural performance by Folkstar Dance academy and a Chinese cultural performance by Hua Xia Multicultural Society. As well as hearing directly from members of the Delta Youth Newcomer Advisory Table about their personal experiences and their current project Unheard Voices. Sending thanks to Ken Harvey from Tsawwassen Legion - Local 289 who delivered this generous donation to Sarah Kocaba and Renie D'Aquila at REACH today! The Royal Canadian Legion, branch 289, celebrated its 100 year anniversary this year and offered free membership to celebrate. There are still a few months to go, so sign up, see some live local music and support this great community organization!!

On September 21, Surrey City Council voted unanimously to partner with REACH on a new REACH Surrey Centre for Autism at 7010 King George Boulevard in Newton.

For many families, accessing autism services can mean long drives, long waits and navigating supports in different places. This new centre will bring services closer to home and together under one roof.

The REACH Surrey Centre for Autism will offer:

• Assessment and behavioural intervention
• Speech-language and occupational therapy
• Skill-building groups
• Parent and caregiver education and training
• Counselling, respite and peer support
• Help navigating and accessing services

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Brenda Locke, Councillor Harry Bains, Surrey City Council and City staff for their leadership and support. Many months of work went into making this partnership possible.

REACH has walked alongside children and families in Surrey, Delta and Langley since 1959, and through this new partnership with the City of Surrey, we are excited to expand our presence in Surrey and bring more services closer to the families who need them. We can’t wait to welcome children and families to this new space in the coming months.

Want to help bring the new Centre to life? Join us at A Taste of REACH on November 18, generously hosted by Tasty Indian Bistro in North Delta. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the new Surrey Centre for Autism and help create a welcoming place where children and families can access the services they need, closer to home.
