I like to give each shroud a name that reflects its vibe/origins. For this one, I would lean into the blue flowers used to eco-print the silk ties.

Any suggestions?

When I first began learning about green burial, I discovered something that surprised me.

Most people don’t know it’s an option.

We spend our lives making thoughtful decisions about how we live, yet many families are never told there are gentler, more natural ways to say goodbye.

That realization stayed with me. It became the reason I created the Rest in Beauty Guide.

Not because I have all the answers, but because I wanted to gather what I’d learned into one beautiful, approachable place - so families can explore their options before they’re faced with making difficult decisions.

My hope is simple: that this guide encourages more open conversations.

That it helps people make choices that reflect their values.

And that it reminds us that beauty doesn’t have to disappear at the end of life.

If this conversation resonates with you, I’d be honoured if you downloaded the guide and shared it with someone who may need it one day.

The Rest in Beauty Guide is available free through the link in my bio.

Most people prefer a more muted shade for a shroud but there are those who like to make a statement.

I don’t make many of the brighter ones but I will if someone asks (this one is for a client).

Do you prefer muted or vibrant colours?

I may use one dye batch for more than one shroud to maximize time and output.

However, very rarely can I match exact dye colours as time, concentration, heat and fabric prep can all influence the outcome.

Every shroud is literally one-of-a-kind.

Which plants resonate with you?

Before dyeing, I’ll sometimes fold, gather, or bind the fabric by hand. It changes the way the colour settles into the cloth — creating softer movement, variation, and areas that feel less controlled. I’ve always been drawn to that natural irregularity. It gives each piece its own character.

This shroud combines black walnut and madder. Together, they create deep browns and warm red undertones.

Both dyes are known for their strength and longevity. Colours that feel grounded and close to the earth.
