Another great support is coming soon…🤫

…Let’s Talk About SAD 🌥️

As the days get shorter and we start seeing less sunlight, some people notice changes in their mood, energy, sleep, and motivation.

This can be a sign of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) — a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern and most commonly occurs during the fall and winter months.

You may notice:

😴 Sleeping more or feeling unusually tired
🌧️ Feeling down, sad, or hopeless
🛋️ Losing interest or motivation
🍞 Changes in appetite or cravings
🧠 Difficulty concentrating
💤 Wanting to withdraw or spend more time alone

☀️ The good news? Fall is the perfect time to start paying attention.

Getting outside during daylight hours, staying physically active, maintaining a regular sleep schedule, connecting with others, and keeping a consistent routine can all support your mental well-being as the seasons change.

If you notice a significant change in your mood or daily functioning, you don’t have to wait until things become overwhelming to ask for help. Talk with your healthcare provider about what you’re experiencing and what supports may be appropriate for you.

🍁 Be proactive about your mental health this fall.

Sometimes taking care of yourself starts with simply noticing that something has changed.

🌙 RESTORATIVE YOGA & SOUND BATH 🌙

✨ Unwind. Release. Rebalance✨
Give yourself 90 minutes to slow down, soften, and truly rest.
Join me for an intimate candlelit Restorative Yoga & Sound Bath designed to help you step away from the busyness of everyday life and reconnect with stillness.

SEPTEMBER IS NICU AWARENESS MONTH

Some babies begin their lives surrounded by monitors, wires, beeping machines and the hands of people working tirelessly to keep them safe.

And some parents begin parenthood sitting beside an incubator, afraid to breathe too deeply, afraid to hope too much, and praying for the day they can finally take their baby home.

NICU parents know a kind of love that is difficult to put into words.

They celebrate things other parents may take for granted — a few extra grams on the scale, a successful feeding, a good blood gas, fewer alarms, the first time holding their baby, the first time seeing those tiny eyes open.

And then, one day, they get to leave.

But sometimes, leaving the NICU doesn’t mean leaving the NICU behind.

The beeping may stop, but the fear can remain.

The monitors are gone, but parents may still wake through the night to make sure their baby is breathing.

A simple cough can bring back the fear.

Uncalculated feeds feel terrifying.

A doctor’s appointment can bring overwhelming anxiety.

And sometimes, people say, “But your baby is home now. Everything is okay.”

But an NICU journey doesn’t always end when you walk through the front door.

To the parents who spent days, weeks or months beside an incubator:

We see you. 💜

To the parents who had to leave the hospital without their baby:

We remember how hard that was.

To the parents who celebrated milestones in a hospital room:

Those milestones mattered.

To the parents who still carry fear, guilt, grief or anxiety from their NICU experience:

You are not alone.

And to every tiny baby who fought their way into this world:

You are a reminder of just how strong life can be.

This September, we honour the babies, the parents, the families, and the healthcare professionals who walk this incredibly difficult journey alongside them.

💜 For every tiny fighter. Every exhausted parent. Every hopeful family. Every angel remembered.

We see you

💜 OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY 💜

Today, Safe Haven was honoured to be part of the Overdose Awareness event organized by S.O.Y.A. Connie Raynor

We came together as a community to remember those we have lost, stand alongside those who are grieving, and support those who continue to struggle. 🕊️

Thank you to S.O.Y.A. for creating a space where we can have important conversations, challenge stigma, share resources, and remind one another that help is available and no one has to face this alone.

A special thank you to everyone who stopped by the Safe Haven table, connected with us, shared their stories, and showed their support. 💙

You are not alone.
Help is here.
Hope is real.

Let’s keep the conversation going.
Let’s support harm reduction.
Together, we can save lives. 💜

🫁 A NEW TOOL FOR YOUR QUIT JOURNEY! 🚭

We’re always looking for ways to make our Smoking Cessation Clinic more supportive, informative, and accessible — and we’ve added a new tool to our clinic!

✨ Safe Haven now has a pulse oximeter ✨

This allows us to check your oxygen saturation and pulse during your smoking cessation visits and gives us another way to monitor your health while you work toward your goals.

But quitting doesn’t have to happen overnight. Whether you’re:
🚬 Thinking about quitting
🚭 Ready to quit
🔄 Trying again
💬 Or simply want to talk about your options…

You’re welcome here. No judgment. No pressure. Just support.

🗓️ Every Thursday
⏰ 3:00–5:00 PM
📍 550 Queen St W

Come in, ask questions, get support, and take the next step when you’re ready. ❤️

Your health. Your journey. Your choice.

As August comes to an end, we just want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all of our Safe Haven clients and families. 🫶

Thank you for trusting us with your care, your questions, your journeys, and your families. It is an honour to be part of your lives and to provide healthcare that is personal, accessible, compassionate, and community-focused.

August was a busy one for Safe Haven — and we are so grateful for every appointment, every conversation, every class, every referral, and every person who walked through our doors. 🌿

Most importantly, thank you for allowing us to do what we love.

Here’s to an amazing September! ✨

With gratitude,
The Safe Haven Team 💙
