Candace Baker, Certified Athletic Therapist

Candace Baker, Certified Athletic Therapist Athletic therapy is used to prevent, treat, and rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries/ailments. I will work with you in a relaxed, come-as-you-are environment.

I am a Certified Athletic Therapist, or CAT(C), in Drayton Valley, AB. My goal is to make you feel and move better, closer to the way your body was meant to move. Through our assessment and subsequent therapy sessions, we will work together to achieve pain-free movement, and ideally you will end up learning ways to prevent pain and promote movement. My treatment style is very hands on, with many m

anual therapy techniques. I also give all of my clients 'homework' - exercises to correct or prevent their current and future injuries that they can do at home or at the gym. I encourage individuals to follow an active lifestyle in whatever way they choose. I personally am a fan of slow pitch, CrossFit, yoga, running, weight lifting, snowboarding, wake boarding, wake surfing, and trying new activities regularly! It can take up to six weeks to see strength gains (depending on a lot of different variables), and September is only 8 weeks away!!

I’m proud to be a Certified Athletic Therapist because every
day, I have the opportunity to help people through some of
their most challenging moments.

This year’s National Athletic Therapy Month theme, In Good
Hands, speaks to the trust that’s built over time through
care, communication, consistency, and support.

From recovery and rehabilitation to performance and
prevention, Certified Athletic Therapists help people return to
the activities, work, and lives that matter to them.

I’m proud to be part of a profession that helps keep
Canadians moving.

“Will my benefits cover Athletic Therapy?”

Maybe, maybe not.

It all depends on which plan you have, and through which insurer.

Most insurance companies have plans that will cover athletic therapy services, but it ends up being up to whoever purchases the plan whether or not AT is included.

Eg I have clients who work for a company that has a Canada Life plan which covers AT, but I have other clients who work elsewhere, also with a Canada Life plan, that does not cover AT.

If you get benefits through your employer, ask them to have athletic therapy coverage added to the company plan (if it’s not already in there).

If you need help wording your request to your employer, please reach out - I have some pre-written letters you can use!

We know I'm biased, but I think this is a pretty good article making the case for AT to be included/recognized in our healthcare system.

40% of Canadians say they’ve been injured in a way that's kept them from being fully functional.

Big news from the US this week:

The USDA updated their food pyramid. Looks a lot like what successful nutrition coaches have been preaching for years.

Eat more REAL food, and less processed things. Prioritize protein, veggies, fruits, dairy, nuts/seeds, and whole grains.

Hopefully this sticks, and when they review/revise in 5 years they’ll see it’s made a difference in the health of their country, and then likely in ours also. Yes, ours is very similar, and was released earlier, but (to my recollection) the headlines weren’t as attention grabbing and I haven’t noticed much reinforcement from the medical community overall.

If you need some help making changes to your lifestyle, PLEASE reach out and ask for it. I would love to help you, in anyway I can.

(In the photo, the brightly coloured upside down pyramid is the new one)

Have you asked your employer to add Athletic Therapy to your benefits plan yet?

If not, head to the website below, scroll the bottom (if you don't want to read all the info before that), click on the link on step 2, copy that info into an email (add your name of course), and send it to your HR department (or whoever runs your benefits plan).

No guarantees it will work, but you don't know if you don't ask!

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Move Freely. Live Fully. Move Freely. Live Fully. Move Freely. Live Fully. Did you know that nearly half (47%) of Canadians have been injured in a way that prevents them from being fully functional at work, home or play? According to a recent Ipsos survey, Canadians are nearly unanimous
