🤣Who knew you could pack so many laughs into one round of mini‑golf?⛳The wit, the sarcasm, the friendly jesting — it was all out in full force.
🌦Despite a very “maybe… maybe not” weather forecast, we went ahead with our Poling and Putting at The Sunny Spot. And honestly, it couldn’t have been better. No rain.🌧No bugs.🐝No smoke.🔥No wind. 💨
Just pure fun, good‑natured ribbing, and some seriously great food served up by The Sunny Spot.🍔🥗🍟🍗
After supper, we took a walk around the inviting, creative local community 🏡— the perfect ending to a perfect outing.
✨And, congratulations to Bobbie and Janice on their holes-in-one!
Let’s do it again next year.
Poling and Putting is just one of the Special Events we host throughout the year at Drumheller Nordic Walking and Wellness.

Most people don’t know that to maintain Fitness Alberta certification, instructors must earn 12 CECs (continuing education credits) every two years. That means workshops👩‍🏫, webinars💻, online courses✏️, and staying current with CPR and First Aid. It’s a commitment. And I’m happy to share that I’ve just renewed my certification for another 2 years👩‍🎓! Some of the courses I completed this cycle include:
• Group Choreography Freestyle Basics • Managing Grief in Group Fitness • Motivational Interviewing • Fitness Informer Articles: Series 5
🤩I genuinely look forward to learning and keeping up to date on a wide range of health and wellness topics — and I love passing little bits of that knowledge along during classes. Whether it’s Nordic walking, line dancing, resistance training, step aerobics, chair exercises, or any of the other classes we offer at Drumheller Nordic Walking and Wellness, we hope you leave feeling stronger💪, supported… and maybe learning something new too.

😜Apologies for getting behind on sharing our Outdoor Walking and Wellness adventures — summer has a way of sweeping us along. A few weeks ago, we travelled🚌to the hamlet of Dorothy, a place with roots stretching back to the late 1800s.

💕We were incredibly fortunate to have local historian Frank Roes guide us through the buildings⛪at the rest area and share his personal memories of growing up in Dorothy. His stories brought the history to life in a way no book ever could.

😔Unfortunately, we also learned about recent vandalism and theft on properties that are generously kept open for the community to explore. It’s heartbreaking, and a reminder of how important it is to respect these treasured places.

🙏Thank you to the volunteers who take care of the structures and the land. Every time we visit, I comment on how we should have an old-time family dance🤠and potluck supper🍯out there to raise funds for the upkeep of the buildings. Stay tuned. It may happen yet.

In the meantime, if you’re in the area, we highly recommend a stop in Dorothy. It’s a beautiful slice of Alberta history, and well worth the visit.👍

✨ Some of our “Do You Wanna Crew” spent their Sunday afternoon soaking up the incredible talent at the Dancing With the Dinosaurs Indigenous Festival here in Drumheller!
❤️This year’s lineup was absolutely inspiring — featuring Walter Whitebear (Cree singer-songwriter, educator, and motivational speaker), the mesmerizing Piqsiq (Inuit throat singers), the graceful Shirley Hill (Hoop Dancer), and a pair of talented young Métis dancers who brought wonderful energy to the stage.
🌟 A huge thank you to Lynn Fabrick, whose vision and dedication have shaped this event from its beginnings as a Canada Day Powwow into a full 2-day festival. Thanks to her leadership, the community has enjoyed eight successful years of celebration, culture, and connection.
🍀Events like this remind us how lucky we are to live in a community that embraces learning, diversity, and shared experiences. Drumheller is richer for it.

You don't have to go fast...you just have to go!

When it comes to aging, we have a habit of waiting until something goes wrong before we take action.

We diagnose frailty after someone has already fallen. We prescribe rehabilitation after surgery. We encourage strength training only after independence has begun to slip away.

By then, we're no longer preventing decline we're trying to recover from it.
Imagine approaching your retirement savings the same way. What if you waited until your last day of work to ask yourself, "Have I saved enough?" Most of us would never take that gamble with our finances. We understand that financial security is built through small, consistent deposits made over many years.

Yet that's exactly how many people treat their muscles.
For decades, we withdraw from our physical reserve without making regular deposits. We spend more time sitting, move less, lose muscle gradually, and assume it's simply part of getting older. Then one day, life demands more than our body is prepared to give. A fall. An illness. Surgery. A hospital stay. Suddenly, we discover there isn't enough strength left in the account.

The good news is that aging does not mean your opportunity to build muscle has passed. While building muscle may require a little more intention and recovery may take a little longer, skeletal muscle remains remarkably adaptable throughout life. Research consistently shows that older adults even those in their seventies, eighties, and beyond can continue gaining muscle and strength through progressive resistance training.

Aging changes the rules, but it doesn't change the body's remarkable ability to adapt.

Your body is constantly responding to the demands you place upon it. Every time you challenge your muscles, you're sending a clear message: "This muscle is still needed." In response, your body works to preserve and often rebuild the strength that supports movement, balance, and independence.

That's why strength training is about much more than building bigger muscles or burning calories.

🤞We were so fortunate to get out into the Badlands before the smoke and extreme heat rolled in. It’s incredible how green🌳everything still is — unlike many years when the hills have already turned dry and brown by now. Every walk reminds us how blessed we are to live in such a unique and breathtaking place.🥰

🚶🏿‍♀️Join us for our twice‑weekly walks in and around the Drumheller Valley. Fresh air, friendly faces, and movement that feels good.

🌞 Small but mighty — and absolutely unforgettable!
A handful of us loaded up a couple of kayaks, our swimming gear, and lunch boxes, then headed out to Sheerness (Prairie Oasis Campground) for a perfect summer day.

We swam.🏊
We kayaked.🛶
We ate.🍽
We talked.🗣
We had ice cream.🍦
And honestly… we couldn’t have asked for a lovelier day.🥰

🎉 Huge congratulations to Carmen on her very first kayaking adventure! She crushed it.
And while the plan was “Poling and Paddling,” we’ll admit it — zero poling happened.
But between bathroom trips and ice‑cream runs, we definitely got our steps in!

At Drumheller Nordic Walking and Wellness, we offer more than just exercise classes — we offer a whole wellness community. A place to move your body, lift your spirits, and share experiences that make life brighter.

💛 Find out for yourself.
