Today, Medix EMS is proud to reveal M108 — our newest ambulance, featuring a dedicated Indigenous wrap and decal package that celebrates First Nations culture, honours the legacy of residential school survivors, and creates a safe space for those who have historically felt marginalized within the health care system.
This ambulance was built with purpose — and with deep respect. M108 is Indigenous-centric by design, created to honour First Nations culture and acknowledge the importance of culturally safe care. When a member of Indigenous peoples comes to us for care, we want them to feel that this space was made with them in mind — that they are safe, that they are seen, and that they are cared for with dignity.
On either side of M108 are 215 salmon fry, representing the children lost over generations to the residential school system. The salmon, central to Indigenous culture and life on this land, carry those children forward with us on every call we respond to.
But we are not done yet.
We are launching a design contest open to Indigenous students and Indigenous schools across British Columbia. We are inviting you to design a 3-inch salmon fry in your traditional Indigenous art style. The top 215 designs will be selected and placed permanently on M108 — so that every child represented on this ambulance has a voice, and a mark, that travels with us.
