Ts'ewulhtun Health Centre Ts’ewulhtun Health Centre manages public health and communicable disease control and provides health education programs for the Cowichan Tribes

Ts'ewulhtun Health Centre Goals:

1. Delivers programs and services that will encourage and enable individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles
2. Works together with the Cowichan Tribes Council, the Health Advisory Committee, All Services staff, other agencies, and the community to promote an environment, which is supportive of health lifestyle change
3. Incorporates into its programs and services the

traditional ways of the Cowichan people, which demonstrate respect for individuals, families, and the community.
4. Works towards a health service, which is controlled and managed by Cowichan people, and promotes independence, self-determination, and choice.
5. Ensures that the community receives the best care possiblethrough the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of all programs and services offered by the Centre and learning organization practice.
6. Preserves, promotes, and enhances the provision of safe, quality care to members and their families, as well as creates a health work environment or workplace.

Temperatures are rising this weekend and if you or someone you love takes medication, it can affect how your body handles heat.

Here are 7 medications that can affect heat-related illness:

1 - Beta Blockers
2 - ACE Inhibitors
3 - Diuretics
4 - Anticholinergics
5 - Lithium
6 - Antidepressants
7 - Antipsychotics

The best way to prevent heat-related illness is to spend time in a COOL SPACE.

Temperatures are rising this weekend and it's important to know the signs of heat-related illness for yourself and others!

⚠️ Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
• Skin rash, heavy sweating
• Dizziness, nausea, headache
• Rapid breathing, muscle cramps
• Extreme thirst, dark urine

ACTION: Move to a cool space, drink water and cool the skin with cold water or wet towels. You can find spaces to cool down on this map of Cowichan Valley Cooling Resources to: https://shorturl.at/1C2Ah

🚨 Signs of Heat Stroke:
• High body temp
• Fainting, confusion or lack of coordination
• Very hot, red skin

ACTION: Call 9-1-1 immediately and submerge body in cool water

Some may be more affected by the heat and will need extra care. Please check-in with your family members who live alone to ensure they have are staying cool and keeping safe.

The Mamas & Me'mun'u Counselling Group gathers every Monday at Cowichan Tribes Youth Centre from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

The supportive group for pregnant and postpartum Indigenous women (and their 0-12 month old babies) is offered by Kwun'atsustul Counselling and Hwialusmutul' Community Health.
