Last year, something happened on stage that still gives me goosebumps.
More than 300 seats filled the theatre at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney for a sold-out afternoon of spirit communication.
I was one of four mediums standing on that stage, alongside friends and colleagues Rev. Nicole Powell , Lana Ryan , and Arlene Mills.
It was my turn.
I was working with a woman in the audience, connecting with her dearly departed grandparents in Spirit. As the evidence unfolded, the grandparents showed me quite clearly that there was a connection between the young woman and the Every Child Matters movement. I knew this woman was passionate about it... an advocate, a voice, a heart deeply connected to it.
But then something strange happened.
I went to say the words, and they simply wouldn't come.
Nothing.
My mind scrambled. I was personally familiar with the movement, could see the bright orange of the t-shirts connected to it, but the words would not come.
For a heartbeat or two, I hesitated. Then I found myself saying instead:
"The orange t-shirt movement..."
The recipient immediately understood and agreed. And suddenly, as if a door had opened, the words flowed.
"Every Child Matters."
I could say the words I couldn't find just a moment before.
I remember thinking that was unusual, but I carried on.
Two readings later, one of my colleagues was working with a woman whose husband had passed. Beautiful evidence came through — details that touched her heart in all the ways Spirit so often does.
At the end, she asked if she could share something.
Earlier that morning, she had been speaking with her husband in Spirit. She told him all the things he could bring through that day to prove he was still with her. Story after story. Sign after sign.
About ten things onto her list, she suddenly stopped and said:
"You know what? Forget all of that. Its getting confusing. Just get someone to say 'orange t-shirt'... and I'll know you're here."
Everyone in the room gasped, including us up on stage. Ohhhh, the intelligence of Spirit!
You truly cannot make this stuff up!
Sometimes Spirit whispers quietly.
And sometimes, Spirit walks right onto a stage and leaves every one of us sitting there with tears in our eyes and goosebumps on our arms.
And we get to do it again.
