Feeling nervous about starting therapy is completely normal.

Talking to someone new about personal parts of your life can feel vulnerable — and finding the right therapist can make a big difference.

Take some time to look at different therapists, learn about their approach, and use free consultations when they’re available.

You don’t have to choose the first person you find.

The goal is to find someone you feel comfortable with, someone who understands what you’re looking for, and someone who feels like the right fit for you.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating. Finding the right therapist can make that first step feel a lot easier.

At Blake Psychological Services Alberta Inc we have affordable options available. Please reach out today.

Sometimes life doesn’t need a complete overhaul. It needs a little more structure.

A boundary that needs to be clearer.
A pattern that isn’t working anymore.
A habit that needs to change.
Or simply some space to figure out why things have started feeling off.

That’s one way to think about therapy.

It gives you a place to look at what’s working, what isn’t, and what might need to change so life feels more aligned with what actually matters to you.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you walk into the room.

Sometimes figuring it out is the work.

ADHD doesn’t always look like being unable to sit still or pay attention.

Sometimes it looks like constantly feeling behind. Forgetting appointments. Starting projects you can’t seem to finish. Struggling with routines, emotions or organization—even when you’re genuinely trying.

If those challenges are starting to affect school, work, relationships or everyday life, it may be worth looking a little closer.

Appointments get forgotten.
Simple routines feel overwhelming.
Projects get started but rarely finished.
And it can feel like you’re putting in twice the effort just to keep up.

It may also affect:
Organization
Time management
Emotional regulation
Stress
Relationships
Confidence

ADHD can look different from person to person.

You regularly lose important things.
You struggle to finish tasks even when you care about them.
You feel overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities.
School or work feels harder despite trying your best.
Your emotions sometimes feel difficult to manage.

- Staying focused in class
- Completing homework
- Following routines
- Organization
- Managing big emotions

When these challenges start affecting everyday life, it may be worth having a conversation.

It’s about finding tools that make sense for the way your brain works.
Therapy may help with:
• Routines
• Executive functioning
• Stress
• Communication
• Emotional regulation

If you’re wondering whether ADHD could be contributing to what you’re experiencing, a psychologist can help you explore whether therapy, an assessment, or another next step makes sense.

You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

ADHD doesn’t always look the same in adulthood.

For adults, it can show up in ways that affect work, relationships, routines, spending, organization, and everyday responsibilities.

Many adults have also spent years developing ways to cope, which can make the signs less obvious than they were in childhood.

That’s why ADHD in adults can sometimes be overlooked or misunderstood.

Understanding how ADHD shows up in your life can be an important first step toward finding strategies that actually work for you.

If you’ve been wondering whether ADHD could be affecting your day-to-day life, Blake Psychological offers ADHD support and assessments in Edmonton.

Couple Check-In 💛

Sometimes the argument isn’t really about the argument.

Who forgot to do something.
Who wasn’t listening.
Who said what.
Who started it.

When conflict keeps repeating, it can be worth looking underneath it instead of only trying to “win” the disagreement.

This week’s couple check-in:

Notice the opposite.

If you’ve been arguing about not feeling heard, notice when your partner really listens.

If you’ve been feeling overlooked, notice the small moments when they show care.

If you’ve been focusing on what’s missing, make a point of acknowledging something they’re doing well.

It doesn’t mean ignoring real problems or avoiding difficult conversations.

It means making sure conflict isn’t the only thing getting your attention.

What’s one thing your partner did this week that you appreciated?

09/17/2026

Your first therapy session isn’t about having all the right words.

It’s simply a chance to start the conversation.

We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’d like support with, and what you hope to get out of therapy. You can ask questions, share what feels comfortable, and take things at your own pace.

There’s no expectation to tell your whole story in the first appointment.

The goal is to help you feel heard, supported, and a little more comfortable with what comes next.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy but feeling nervous about that first session, you’re definitely not alone. 💛

09/09/2026

Sometimes therapy is less like an emergency repair and more like regular maintenance.

You don’t have to wait until things completely fall apart before reaching out.

If communication is getting harder, the same arguments keep coming up, or the relationship just feels more strained than it used to, that can be a good time to check in.

Addressing things earlier can make it easier to understand what’s happening, make changes, and reconnect before the problems feel much bigger.

You don’t have to wait until you’re at your limit before asking for support.
