Side-lying play is important for your child to learn about the sides of their body which will eventually support rolling and moving into sitting.

It furthermore helps to develop head and neck control as well as is the start to strengthening their tummy muscles.

1. Make sure your child’s shoulder and hip that are at the “top” are slightly more forward than their “bottom” one.

2. This helps them to push off the floor with their foot, and leads to them learning to roll backward.

3. It will also assist them with rolling forward as gravity is already pulling the shoulder towards the floor.

Tummy time helps children develop important neck, back, and shoulder muscles in order to achieve early gross motor milestones.
It is also a wonderful change of position for them while playing on the floor.

1. Make sure their body is straight with their head in midline.
2. Place their hips and knees also straight in alignment with their body.
3. Have their elbows directly under their shoulders - use a small rolled up towel for support under their chest/armpits if necessary.
