What’s your favorite thing about your placement so far?
"My favourite thing about my placement so far has been seeing how the concepts I’ve learned in my Kinesiology courses translate into real patient care. As a gym enthusiast, it’s rewarding to see how the exercises and movements I enjoy can be used to help patients regain strength, confidence, and function."

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
"I’m currently obsessed with hitting the gym, sipping my iced coffee, and of course keeping up with soccer leagues! ⚽️☕"

What’s your go-to study snack?
"My go-to study snack is a KitKat. It’s basically a scheduled study break disguised as a chocolate bar. 🪄📚🍫🧚"

Looking for ways to manage Achilles Tendinopathy? Start with Dave's recommended exercises!

Isometric Heel Raise Hold
🎯 Targets the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles under constant tension.
⭐ Provides immediate pain relief and begins building tendon load capacity.

Seated Calf Raise
🎯 Specifically targets the soleus muscle, which handles the majority of load during walking.
⭐ Supports the tendon by strengthening the deeper calf muscles without high impact.

Eccentric Heel Drops
🎯 Focuses on the "lengthening" phase of the calf contraction.
⭐ Stimulates tendon remodeling and improves the structural integrity of the tissue.

Single-Leg Pogo Jumps
🎯 Targets the "spring-like" function of the tendon.
⭐Prepares the tendon for the high-velocity demands of running and jumping.

Meet Natalia 👋 she may be small, but from day one, she has made a big impact around the clinic. Under Brinda's guidance, she is already showing the qualities of a great future physiotherapist through her work with patients, teamwork with staff members and eagerness to learn!

✨Learn more about Natalia below✨

What motivated you to pursue a master’s in physiotherapy?
“Pursuing physiotherapy was somewhat unexpected for me, but the more experience I gained as a previous kinesiologist, the more I learned how much I enjoyed coming to the clinic each day to work closely with people. The further I get in my education, the more I feel that this was the best decision I've ever made.”

What is your approach to helping patients achieve their goals?
“I think physiotherapy works best as a team effort between the therapist and the patient. And that's the beauty of physiotherapy, figuring out each person’s unique rehabilitation journey and using our toolbox as physiotherapists to tailor treatment in a way that's important and relevant to them.”

What are your interests outside of the clinic?
⚽ Playing soccer
🎹 Playing piano
🐎 Horseback riding

De Quervain's Tenosynovitis causing pain along the thumb side of your wrist? Here are 4 exercises recommended by Natalia I., to help improve mobility, strength, and tolerance to everyday activities.

💡 Gentle movement may help reduce stiffness and improve comfort during everyday hand activities.

3️⃣ Wrist Radial Deviation with Band
🎯 Targets the muscles that support thumb and wrist movement

4️⃣ Thumb Abduction with Band (Late Stage of Rehab)

Read what our Student Physiotherapist, Natalia I., has to say about De Quervain's Tenosynovitis!

👍 Pain along the thumb side of your wrist when gripping, lifting, or twisting?

It may be De Quervain's Tenosynovitis, an irritation of the tendons that control thumb movement as they pass through a tunnel near the wrist.

Physiotherapy can help reduce pain, improve mobility, and address the underlying cause so you can get back to your daily activities with confidence.

“My interest in human movement is what led me to pursue a Master’s in Physical Therapy. I’ve seen the positive impact movement can have on quality of life, and being able to help someone regain confidence in their movement is what drew me to this profession."

"My approach to practice starts with validating each patient’s experience. By understanding their concerns and goals, I’m able to build trust and use my knowledge to help support them throughout their recovery journey."

Outside of the clinic, you’ll usually find me dancing or teaching dance 😊💃
