To every teacher reading this: you just finished another year.
Think about what you actually did between September and June. You managed a room full of kids with completely different needs, abilities, and home situations. You marked assignments at your kitchen table at 9pm. You de-escalated situations before they became situations. You built relationships with students who did not make it easy. You attended every meeting, every parent conference, every professional development day. You showed up when you were sick, when you were tired, and when you had nothing left.
And you did it all while standing on hard floors, hunching over desks, craning your neck to watch the back of the room, and carrying bags that weigh more than they should.
Your body remembers all of it. Even now that school is out.
The tension in your shoulders did not disappear with the last bell. The nervous system that kept you alert and functional in a classroom full of kids does not just switch off because it is summer. The fatigue that built up since Thanksgiving is still there, waiting for you to finally slow down enough to feel it.
This summer, do something about it. Not next summer. This one.
We just published a full article about what teaching does to the body and how massage therapy for teachers helps undo some of that damage before September rolls back around. The research on teacher burnout in Canada is genuinely eye opening and worth a read.
