If you’re training hard, eating well, and still dragging through your days, the answer might not be doing more. It might be fueling more.

When your body is working hard and not getting enough fuel to match, it shifts into saving mode. One of the ways it protects you is by making less active thyroid hormone (T3), which slows your metabolism and leaves you tired, cold, and stuck, no matter how perfect your routine looks.

I learned this the hard way during my ultra training. As a pharmacist, I knew a lot about labs and medication, and I still missed what my own body was telling me.

The good news is that this is often one of the easier things to change. Eating enough, especially on training days, is one of the kindest things you can do for your thyroid. And knowing which labs to ask for can help you and your doctor see the full picture.

Comment LABS and I’ll send you my free guide to the exact thyroid tests to ask for. 💛

So many women I talk to have been living with these signals for years, brushing them off as stress, a busy season, or just part of getting older.

As a pharmacist and holistic nutritional consultant, I see it often. Tired no matter how much you sleep, foggy, shedding hair, always cold, and a scale that won’t budge even though nothing has changed. Each one on its own is easy to explain away. Together, they’re worth paying attention to.

Your body isn’t betraying you, it’s communicating. And the first step to understanding what it’s saying is getting the right information.

I’m not here to tell you your doctor got it wrong. The standard panel just wasn’t built to answer every question. Knowing which labs to ask for can help you and your doctor see the fuller picture.

Quick intro for anyone new here.

I’m Nancy, a pharmacist and certified holistic nutritional consultant who helps women with hypothyroidism understand what their body is telling them and feel steady again.

I believe medication has its place, and I also believe nutrition, stress, sleep, and blood sugar all shape how you feel day to day.

That’s the space I work in, and it’s what you’ll find here.

If you nodded along to the left side, you’re in the right place. Hit follow so you don’t miss what’s coming next.

I’m on the sidelines with an injury this week, and it got me thinking about 2014.

I was working as a pharmacist, training for the Canadian Death Race, and caring for my family. Everyone around me thought that I was at my peak. In reality I was foggy, exhausted, sleeping poorly, and getting hurt more often than I ever had. Running, which had always been my joy, started to feel like a battle.

What I understand now as a pharmacist and certified holistic nutritional consultant is that symptoms like these aren’t a sign you’re doing it wrong. Your thyroid and your stress hormones play a big role in your energy, your sleep, and how well you recover, and a basic screening test doesn’t always show the full picture.

I’m not here to tell you your doctor got it wrong. The standard panel just wasn’t built to answer every question.

That’s why I created Thyroid Tests 101, a simple guide to the exact labs to ask for and what they mean.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. Family life and pharmacy shifts kept me busy, and now I’m back with more time for this community and for the women I work with.

If you’re new here, hi, I’m Nancy. I’m a pharmacist and certified holistic nutritional consultant, and I help women with hypothyroidism get their energy back and feel like themselves again.

I’d love to know what you want to learn about. Thyroid labs, energy, blood sugar, supplements? Tell me in the comments and I’ll build my next posts around your questions.

In 2014, I was training for a 125km ultramarathon through the Canadian Rockies: Three mountain summits, 17,000 feet of elevation change. I thought I was at my healthiest.

I was wrong.

Brain fog, constant fatigue, heart palpitations. I was a pharmacist and I knew about labs, protocols and medication. And I still missed what was happening in my own body, because I was doing everything “right” and nobody thinks hypothyroidism shows up when you’re thriving.

That experience is exactly why I built The Thyroid Clarity Session. It’s for the woman who’s been dismissed, told her labs are fine, and left more confused than when she walked in.

60 minutes - One clear plan - No more guessing

I have 4 spots open this month. Link in bio to grab one, or send me a DM if you have questions.

If I had to throw out every supplement I own and keep exactly one, it’s this one.

Magnesium. Travel bag, sick days, working long hours. No exceptions.

Here’s why. Magnesium is a cofactor in over 300 reactions in your body, which is a very boring way of saying: energy production, blood sugar, sleep, muscle function, stress response, bowels. (Yes, bowels. We’re all adults here.)

For my thyroid, it matters more than most women realize. Low magnesium has been linked to higher TSH and higher thyroid antibodies, and your body needs it to help convert T4 into the T3 your cells actually use.

And as a runner? You lose it through sweat, and your muscles need magnesium to relax, not just contract. Cramping calves and a brain that won’t shut off at 11pm are often the same story.

Now the pharmacist part, because almost nobody tells you this: if you’re on levothyroxine, your magnesium needs to be at least 4 hours away from your dose. Take them together and you’re blocking absorption of the medication you’re relying on. I see it constantly behind the counter.

Boring. Not sexy. Steady.

Comment MAGNESIUM if you want to know which form is right for you, because they are NOT interchangeable.

Your TSH can be “normal” and you can still have hypothyroid symptoms. Here’s why.

TSH doesn’t measure your thyroid directly. It measures how hard your pituitary is working to signal it. When your thyroid hormone runs low, TSH rises to compensate. When it’s high, TSH drops. It’s a signal, not a direct reading, and the “normal” range is wide enough that where you feel best inside it isn’t the same for everyone.

That’s why two things can both be true: your TSH looks fine on paper, and you’re still exhausted, foggy, and not yourself. A fuller picture usually includes Free T4, Free T3, and thyroid antibodies too, not just one number.

This is exactly what we go through in a Thyroid Clarity Session, your actual labs, what they mean, and what’s still worth asking for. A few spots are still open this month. Link in bio. 🤍

If you’ve Googled “why am I so tired all the time” more than once this month, this one’s for you.

Eight hours of sleep and you still can’t think straight by 2pm. You’ve cut sugar, added protein, started walking more, and nothing’s moved. And you’re sitting across from a doctor hearing “everything looks normal” while your body is telling you something completely different.

That’s the exact place I work. Not just your numbers, what’s actually happening in your body. It’s the whole reason the Thyroid Clarity Session exists.

If this sounds like you, link in bio. 🤍
