Meet one of YEG Family Counselling's newest Mental Health Therapy Interns, Heidi Gelinas! 🎉

A self-described introvert, Heidi loves gardening and propagating plants indoors. Something she learned recently is that many self-pollinating plants produce more fruit when near other plants like them🌱 This fact appeals to her because she feels like people are kind of the same way 😜

Despite just entering the world of counselling, Heidi has been in the mental health field for 5 years. Prior to going to school for counselling, she worked as a nurse on both child/adolescent and adult psychiatry units. This means Heidi has considerable experience working with children with behavioral concerns and family dynamics. She also just really enjoys working with folks who just want to improve parts of their life.

And what's even better? Heidi's sessions are part of our Affordable Counselling Program with sessions starting at $110/hour.

If Heidi seems like someone you might connect with, check out her bio on our website (link in bio) and book your intake with us today!

Meet one of YEG Family Counselling's newest Mental Health Therapy Interns, Trinity Moore! 🙌

Trinity has a background in competitive hip hop dance 👯 Despite transitioning away from the competitive scene, she still loves to use dance and music as a way to keep her body active and her ADHD brain happy and engaged.

You know what else Trinity loves (aside from her 🐱Rocky and a Timmy's iced coffee)? Pokémon! She can often be found playing the games for some lower energy self-care in her downtime.

Before making her way to YEG Family Counselling, Trinity worked as an Educational Assistant and Therapeutic Assistant at various elementary schools in Edmonton. Throughout this time she worked with children and youth in multidisciplinary team settings which helped her develop strong skills in behavioural support, rapport building, emotional co-regulation, and collaborative practice.

Now, she especially loves working with neurodiverse teens, individuals navigating life transitions, folks navigating anxiety or perfectionism, as well as athletes and performers.

And the best part? Trinity's sessions are part of our Affordable Counselling Program with sessions starting at $110/hour.

If Trinity seems like someone you might connect with, check out her bio on our website (link in bio) and book your intake with us today!

In this month's blog post from YEG Family Counselling clinician, Corey Anderson (CSAT), we take a deeper look at s*x addiction.

For some people, s*xual behaviour can start to feel less like a choice and more like a cycle. In his clinical work, Corey uses s*x addiction as an umbrella term for these patterns. While many people engage in s*xual behaviours in ways that feel healthy, consensual, and aligned with their values, concerns can arise when the behaviour starts to feel compulsive, secretive, distressing, or begins to create problems in other aspects of one's life.

Read the full blog for more insights into when po*******hy use--or other s*xual behaviours--become a problem and how therapy can help. Link in bio!

Does Corey sound like a therapist you'd like to work with? Visit yegfamilycounselling.com to read more about his practice and complete our Online Intake today!

Meet YEG Family Counselling's newest clinician--Canadian Certified Counsellor, Miranda Dolphin 🐬

You might not know this by looking at her, but Miranda is a clown (complimentary) 🤡 She is an active member in the improv and clowning community in Edmonton and can often be found in class, on stage, volunteering, or running a clown jam of her own. She loves to take any chance she can to play and have a good laugh!

This is an energy she also brings into her therapeutic practice. In session, she strives to make clients feel safe, heard, and gently challenged when appropriate, while also holding space for joy and laughter. Miranda loves working with fellow fat folks navigating their relationships to their bodies and the systemic harm that comes with being in a large body. She also specializes in eating disorders, neurodivergence, perfectionism, people pleasing, and anxiety.

Oh ya, and she can hold a plank for two-and-a-half minutes 💪

Miranda's first day with us is Friday, July 10th. If she sounds like someone you would like to work with, you can complete our Online Intake Form (link in bio) and request her today!

The latest YEG Family Counselling blog post is brought to you courtesy of Paige Cahill, R.Psych. One of the most common struggles experienced by Paige's clients who've experienced religious trauma is undoing the impact of purity culture on their lives.

Purity culture is a term used to describe the social and religious messages that tie a person’s worth to their ability to adhere to a collection of very strict moral rules. People experience it in different ways, and not everyone will define it the same way. However, at its core, purity culture speaks to the ways desire, bodies, and behaviours are rigidly regulated, often in ways that leave lasting impacts on us.

In her newest blog, Paige unpacks these impacts and sheds some light on how therapy can help reclaim our right to our body, our needs, and our desires. If you or someone you know could benefit from therapy with Paige, you can complete our intake form or schedule an interactive intake with one of our Mental Health Therapy Interns. Link in bio!
