⛳️ It’s a beautiful day to hit the links!

Wishing everyone at today’s Santa Maria Goretti Parish Golf Tournament a fantastic day on the course — good golf, great company, plenty of laughs and - hopefully - a few birdies along the way!

Park Memorial is delighted to support this year’s tournament once again as a Silver Sponsor, and we’ve sent along a little help for the day — 10 cases of water to keep everyone hydrated, plus a new putter and golf balls for the prize table. 💧⛳️

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to support the organizations and people who bring our community together.

Best wishes to the entire Santa Maria Goretti Parish community for a fun and successful tournament today.

And to all of the golfers:

May your drives be straight, your putts be short, and your scorecard be kind.

Have a wonderful day!

Scams are becoming harder to recognize - and the people behind them are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

A familiar voice on the phone may not actually belong to the person you think it does. An urgent text can appear to come from someone you trust. A request for personal or financial information can look completely legitimate.

And during times of loss, when families may already be navigating unfamiliar paperwork, financial decisions, and responsibilities, that vulnerability can become even greater.

On October 21, Park Memorial is pleased to welcome Julie Matthews Consulting for Scam & Fraud Awareness: Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones Before and After Loss.

Julie is a consumer protection expert, Certified Fraud Examiner, former investigative reporter and trusted fraud prevention educator. Together, we’ll explore what today’s scams actually look and sound like, the warning signs we often miss, and practical ways to protect ourselves and the people we care about.

We’ll talk about impersonation and urgency tactics, AI voice scams, protecting personal information, limiting vulnerability, financial fraud — and what to do when something simply doesn’t feel right.

We’re also proud to welcome CardVault as our Event Impact Partner for this important community conversation.

CardVault’s work is centred around helping organizations protect sensitive payment information and reduce unnecessary exposure of credit-card data — making their support of an evening focused on fraud prevention and consumer protection especially meaningful.

Their partnership reflects an idea at the heart of this event: protecting ourselves and the people we care about begins with awareness, education and thoughtful prevention.

There are so many ways to support families.

At Park Memorial, our commitment to families extends far beyond the moments of loss: it means showing up for the communities we serve and celebrating the people, traditions, and connections that make those communities so special.

This weekend, our Vegreville location had the privilege of cheering on chuckwagon racer Cody Leach, his wife Heidi, and their four beautiful children at the Vegreville Agricultural Society fairgrounds. We’ve been proud supporters of Cody and his team for several years, and after taking last season off to welcome their youngest, they’re back on the track and racing once again.

Between the thunder of the horses, the excitement of the crowd, and the joy of watching their young son cheer with every ounce of his four-year-old heart as his daddy crossed the finish line in first place, it was impossible not to be moved by the love and pride that surrounds this family. (If you listen closely, you’ll hear the sweetest little voice in the grandstands reminding everyone exactly who he’s cheering for - and melting your heart in the process 💚)

We are honoured to support families not only through life’s hardest days, but also through the moments that bring us together: the celebrations, the traditions, and the memories being made right here in our communities.

Congratulations to Cody and the entire Leach family on qualifying for tomorrow’s Dash for Cash finals. We’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines.

This fall, Park Memorial is proud to introduce two new additions to our community event calendar while continuing to offer the support programs that so many families have come to know and trust.

Alongside our ongoing monthly *Men's Grief Support* and *Art for the Grieving Heart* programs, we are proud to launch two new opportunities for connection and education.

*Soft Landings* is a new monthly gathering created for those navigating the earliest days of grief, offering practical guidance, meaningful conversation, and a soft place to land during life's most difficult seasons.

*Scam & Fraud Awareness* is a one-time educational evening designed to help individuals and families recognize scams, protect personal information, and safeguard those they love in an increasingly complex digital world.

Beautiful communities are built one small act of care at a time. 🌼

We’re proud to share that Park Memorial in Smoky Lake has been awarded First Place for Commercial Properties in the Town of Smoky Lake’s 2026 Flower Contest.

A heartfelt thank you to Tammy for creating our beautiful pots and to Carol for planting the beautiful beds and for lovingly tending to watering and caring for our flower beds and planters all summer long. Your dedication has helped create a warm and welcoming space for the families we serve each day. 💐

Congratulations to everyone who helped make Smoky Lake bloom this summer! 🌞

Yesterday, Alberta’s collective hope gave way to heartbreak.

For days, countless people followed the search for Parker, holding tightly to the possibility that he would be found safe. Though most of us never knew Parker or his family personally, news of his passing has left an ache that reaches far beyond those closest to him.

Some losses are felt by an entire community. They remind us that grief is not reserved only for family and friends; it is also the human response to innocence lost, to dreams forever changed, and to witnessing the unimaginable pain carried by others.

In moments like this, compassion becomes our common language. We check in on one another. We hold our children a little tighter. We pause to recognize the fragility and preciousness of life.

To Parker’s family, loved ones, and everyone carrying a heavy heart today, please know that you do not grieve alone.

Sometimes the deepest expressions of humanity are found in the tears we shed for someone we never had the privilege of knowing.

Every life leaves a story. Sometimes, the place where that story is honoured becomes part of the memory itself.

There are places we never forget.

A family home. A favourite walking trail. A community gathering place. A chapel where stories are shared, tears are shed, laughter is heard, and lives are celebrated.

We strive every day to create spaces where families feel welcomed, supported, and cared for—places that become part of the memories they carry forward.

An editorial featured in the June edition of Southwest Living magazine reflects on why the spaces that hold us matter more than we often realize, and why the places where life’s most meaningful moments unfold often remain with us long after we’ve gone home.

We hope you’ll take a few moments to read it. And if you’re comfortable sharing, we’d love to hear about a place that has left a lasting imprint on your own life.💚
