Some of the most important things we know about mental health didn’t come from a textbook.
This World Mental Health Day (October 10), the theme is “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.” It’s a reminder that every story is a kind of expertise.
If you’ve lived it, through your own journey or by walking alongside someone you love, what you carry matters. You know small things can make a big difference. You know healing isn’t a straight line. And you might be the first person someone trusts.
If you’re still learning, you don’t need lived experience or perfect words to make a difference. Listen to understand. Believe what you hear. Ask twice. Check back in.
Save this for a hard day, share slide 8 if your messages are open, or send it to someone who needs the reminder. 🩵
If today feels heavy: call or text 9-8-8 (Su***de Crisis Helpline, 24/7), call the Alberta Mental Health Help Line at 1-877-303-2642 (24/7), or call 911 in an emergency.
