🚀 A Day on the Water at Ghost Lake πŸ’™

Three Chrysalis families recently had the opportunity to spend the day on Ghost Lake, enjoying a two-hour boat tour with Captain Ron Kaczmar of The Handi Boat Society of Alberta.

For participants, the experience was about more than getting on a boat. It was about feeling the breeze on the water, taking in the scenery, spending time with family, and enjoying the freedom of being out on the lake. Experiences like this create opportunities to step outside the everyday, try something new, and make memories that can be carried long after the day is over.

The day also included a BBQ before the tour, giving everyone time to relax, share a meal, and connect before heading out onto the water.

We're grateful to The Handi-Boat Society of Alberta for helping make this experience possible and creating a day filled with connection, adventure, and memories. πŸ’™

Today, July 30, is Friendship Day. πŸ’œ

At Chrysalis, we're incredibly grateful for the friendships and connections we've built over the years. Whether you're a participant, family member, staff member, volunteer, donor, community partner, or supporter, you've helped create a community where people are welcomed, valued, and encouraged to be themselves. Today, we're celebrating every friendship that reminds us we all belong.

To mark the day, participants took part in an interactive workshop exploring what it means to be a good friend. Together, they discussed the qualities of healthy friendships, identified the people in their support networks, learned about healthy boundaries, including the important difference between staff and friends, and shared ideas for building new friendships in their communities.

The celebration continued with friendship cards, handmade bracelets, colouring activities, and outdoor games, filling the day with laughter, creativity, and connection. Because friendship isn't just about spending time together, it's about helping one another grow, feel included, and know that you're never alone.

Happy Friendship Day from all of us at Chrysalis! Thank you for being part of our community and for helping make it a place where meaningful connections can flourish. πŸ’™

β˜€οΈπŸ€  What a day to remember at our Hootenanny BBQ!

Our Hootenanny BBQ brought together participants, families, community members, donors, volunteers, and staff for an afternoon filled with laughter, connection, and summer fun. From enjoying hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, watermelon, popcorn, cotton candy, and slushies to cheering each other on at the dunk tank, every moment was one to remember.

Guests also enjoyed a beautiful butterfly release and spent time with some adorable ducks and goats at the petting zoo. Whether you came for the food, the activities, or simply to spend time together, it was wonderful to see so many people making memories and celebrating our amazing Chrysalis community.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible volunteers, whose time, energy, and generosity made this event possible. Thank you as well to everyone who supports Chrysalis through donations. 🀟 Communication comes in many forms.

Our ASL (American Sign Language) program allows participants to learn another way to connect with the people around them.

For some, it's a way to communicate with friends who are non-speaking. For others, it can be a helpful tool during moments when speaking feels difficult, such as times of stress or anxiety. And for everyone, it's an opportunity to build new skills, strengthen relationships, and help create a more inclusive community where everyone has a voice.

At Chrysalis, we believe communication should never be a barrier to belonging. Every new sign learned is another step toward understanding, connection, and independence. πŸ’™

Every meal tells a story, and at Chrysalis, our story is one of confidence, independence, and connection. πŸ½οΈπŸ’œ

Our Kitchen Program is about much more than just learning to cook. As participants prepare recipes, plan meals, and collaborate in the kitchen, they develop valuable life skills that support greater independence both at home and in the community. Through activities like following recipes, making decisions, communicating with others, and solving problems as a team, every experience helps build confidence that goes beyond the kitchen.

Cooking also creates opportunities for connection. Sharing a meal encourages conversation, friendship, and a sense of belonging, reminding us that some of life's most meaningful moments happen around the table.

At Chrysalis, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to discover their strengths, gain confidence through new experiences, and develop the skills that lead to greater independence. When people are empowered to grow, the impact truly extends far beyond the kitchen.

✨ Creating confidence, one bead at a time.

There's something special about turning a handful of beads into a piece of jewelry that tells your own story.

Our Beading Program helps participants explore their creativity while building important life skills. As they carefully thread beads, paint unique designs, and bring their ideas to life, they're strengthening fine motor skills, improving hand-eye coordination, and developing patience, concentration, and confidence.

For participants with visual impairments, beading becomes a truly inclusive art form. Different textures, shapes, and sizes allow creativity to be explored through touch, making it possible to create something beautiful that can be experienced and appreciated in new ways.

Every bracelet, necklace, and handcrafted piece is more than jewelry, it's a reminder that everyone deserves the opportunity to create, express themselves, and take pride in saying, "I made this."

⛳️ Finding Confidence Beyond the Fairway ⛳️

Chrysalis participants recently enjoyed a day of learning, practice, and connection at Golf Fanatics through our golf program!

Golf offers participants the opportunity to build more than just their swing. It helps strengthen hand-eye coordination, balance, focus, and fine motor skills while encouraging confidence, patience, and perseverance. Every practice session creates a chance to try something new, celebrate progress, and experience the pride that comes from reaching personal goals.

Beyond the skills developed, golf provides a space for participants to connect with others, enjoy an inclusive community experience, and discover new ways to grow. Because everyone deserves the opportunity to participate, learn, and shine. πŸ’š
