Going outside is a simple way to support your overall health. For both children and adults, it can be an easy way to help boost mood, focus, and relaxation.

Connecting with nature doesn’t have to be complicated; even small moments can make a big difference. Go for a stroll around your neighbourhood, spend time in your garden, or simply take some deep breaths and listen to the birds around you. 🐦🌻

If you'd like more support incorporating time outside into your day, talk to your primary care team. They can help you set realistic goals for physical activity or movement you enjoy, manage health concerns that may affect your ability to get active, and connect you with programs and resources in your community.

Dr. Truong sheds light on the full scope of family medicine. 🩺 We’re grateful for the care and expertise you and all other providers bring to your patients!

Q: What is one misconception people have about family medicine?

A: That we're not as skilled as specialists. Reality: family doctors are highly trained and highly knowledgeable in various areas of medicine. We need broad and deep medical knowledge to diagnose and treat the wide range of conditions we see daily. This comprehensive skill set allows us to provide holistic, patient-centred care.

In recognition of National Physicians’ Day on May 1 and World Family Doctor Day on May 19, we’ll be highlighting stories, reflections, and perspectives from doctors who make a meaningful difference in patient care every day.

Has a physician or healthcare provider made a lasting, positive impact on you or your family? We invite you to share your experience in the comments. 💬

You can become more active without overhauling your lifestyle. You don’t need a full plan right away!

RXTGA is intended as a starting point. It allows you to try physical activity in a supported (and free!) way without feeling pressured to make long-term decisions. Options include trying a group class (with no pressure to continue), online activities, use of a facility’s gym and more.

Try first. Decide later.

If you’ve been waiting until you feel fully ready, consider starting the conversation instead. Ask your primary care provider about a Prescription to Get Active at your next appointment.

The Mindful Eating Active Living (MEAL) workshop helps you cultivate a healthy and satisfying relationship with food, your body, and physical activity.

This workshop challenges popular short-term and unsustainable diet rules and instead teaches you the skill of focusing on your body’s hunger and fullness cues to guide eating. Instead of someone else telling you what to eat, how much weight to lose, or how much exercise you need, this program will guide you to tune into your body’s wisdom.

This program will encourage you to make satisfying food choices, develop a positive body image, and connect with your body’s need for daily movement.

Workshop Details:
This 6-week workshop takes place on Wednesdays from 6:15 pm to 8:15 pm.

Register for our spring session (May 6 to June 10) by calling 780-395-2626 or visit our website for more information: https://www.edmontonsouthsidepcn.ca/workshops/mindful-eating-active-living/
