ANNOUNCEMENT: We Are Hiring!
Due to our increased volume, we are expanding once again. Currently we are working 4-6 days per week and require additional staff so that we can continue to help more and more people facing extreme clutter.
Experience is not necessary but we are looking for people with a very specific set of skills.
Successful applicants will be:
- Patient and Thoughtful, we help people facing mental health challenges, seniors, and people experiencing disabilities.
- Hard Working, we want to ensure that we are using our client's money wisely and efficiently, meaning doing the most we can with what we have.
- Organized, warehousing (shipping and receiving) or related experience is of extreme benefit to our team. We often sort, store, and transport items to and from donation centers and waste management facilities and we want to be considerate of their teams and make sure everything is easy and safe to handle for all parties involved.
- Safe, we work with vulnerable sectors so our employees must pass a vulnerable sector background check. We expect our employees to be kind and polite in all circumstances and follow company procedures in various circumstances.
- Have an "Unflinching or Stoic Constitution," meaning that we do not judge our clients. People reach out to us for help when things have gotten too difficult to handle. We often run into pests including insects, rodents, and some "unsavory situations" but we are there to help in whatever way we are able. Meaning we expect our staff to remain impartial and helpful in many different circumstances that most jobs would not traditionally interact with.
- Own transportation to and from job sites is required. Our employees do not use their personal vehicles for business-related transportation of goods or clients.
- Available for day shifts during the week, 2-5 days per week, usually between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Occasionally we will start a bit earlier for bigger jobs but often we work on "senior's time" when they are most available. Sometimes work is available on evenings and weekends, but it's rare and optional.
What to expect? We are a team of neighbours and friends that have volunteered in the community together for many years. We have created a company to help people experience a sense of hope. We often work in 3-6 hour shifts, typically in pairs (or pods of three or four people), and our days involve batch-sorting our client's belongings so that homes and living areas can be safely accessed. All PPE is provided. We try to leave spaces "broom ready" for the next step which is often a referral to a cleaning company or other service provider. We declutter homes and make space, we work hard to get living areas to a level that matches fire code and we have helped many people avoid eviction as well as helped many landlords protect properties from damage. We work alongside many fantastic organizations, associations, businesses, professionals, and other referral partners so that we can provide more and more information and services to our clients as we grow. Collaboration and customer service is very important to us.
Starting salaries are $18.00/hour for laborers and $20.00/hour for lead hands. We work part-time, which often feels like full time, and our work load had varying volume but we have been working 4-6 days per week at the current moment. We aren't going to lie, it's a tough gig, but it's worth it if you want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and want to have a unique career.
