Edmonton Psychologists: I’m looking for the right Associate Psychologist to join Genovese Trauma & PTSD Recovery. I have been looking for the right associate psychologist for some time, and I thought I would share more personally about what I am hoping to find. I am not looking to build a large roster of associates. My goal is to create a small, closely connected group of professionals who are genuinely invested in one another, in the clinic, and in the kind of care we are building together. The principles below describe the person, working relationship, and shared vision I am looking for.

*I am looking to fill this position by the end of August. So if this sounds like you, please send over a CV to [email protected] or via the Careers page on the website. Successful candidates will be contacted.*

WHO I AM HOPING TO FIND

I am looking for a provisional psychologist or newly registered psychologist (5+ years of experience in the mental health field and psychotherapy are preferred) who is genuinely intrigued by trauma work and excited about becoming part of what we are creating at Genovese Trauma & PTSD Recovery.

This is an Associate Psychologist Contractor position and would be a strong fit for someone who values mentorship, consultation, collaboration, and the opportunity to develop a meaningful area of specialization.

I am not looking for someone who already knows everything. I am looking for someone who is curious, thoughtful, clinically motivated, and eager to continue learning.

THE WORK WE DO

I have spent more than 18 years working in trauma-focused practice, including with first responders, correctional and healthcare professionals, and individuals affected by workplace trauma, violence, accidents, and other distressing experiences.
We work with many first responders who have spent their careers helping, protecting, and caring for others. Our role is to help them process what they have experienced, reconnect with themselves and their families, regain confidence, and, when clinically appropriate, return safely and meaningfully to the work and lives that matter to them.

This work can be challenging, but it is also incredibly meaningful. I would love to find someone who feels inspired by the opportunity to support those who have spent so much of their lives supporting others.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A COPY OF ME

I am not necessarily looking for someone who practises exactly as I do. In fact, I would love to find a clinician who complements my experience by developing an area of expertise that expands what the clinic can offer.

This might include:
- Couples therapy, particularly when trauma affects a relationship
- OCD and related concerns
- Sleep disorders
- Youth affected by trauma
- Couples and families impacted by a loved one’s trauma or first-responder career
- Another focused area that intersects meaningfully with trauma

What matters is that you have—or are beginning to develop—a genuine clinical direction. I am much more interested in someone who can say, “This is the population or clinical area I care deeply about, and I want to become excellent at it,” than someone who presents themselves as treating every possible population and concern.

WHAT WE ARE CREATING

Our clinic is different from a traditional general psychology practice.

We are developing an integrated trauma-treatment model that brings together psychotherapy, trauma-informed myofascial massage therapy, and acupuncture to support psychological recovery and nervous-system regulation.

We also believe that the environment itself matters. The clinic is located in a peaceful heritage home in Glenora and has been intentionally designed to feel calm, private, warm, and beautiful. We want clients to have a complete experience of care—from the moment they arrive and begin to settle into the space, through to the support they receive during and after treatment.

For us, trauma treatment is not limited to what happens during the formal therapy hour. It is about creating an environment and a team that support safety, dignity, regulation, connection, and meaningful recovery.

HOW I WORK

My approach is very much: I’ve got your back, and I need you to have the clinic’s back too.

I invest deeply in the people I work with. I will share my experience, help you think through difficult cases, support your growth, advocate for you, help you build an appropriate caseload, and give you room to develop your own strengths and professional identity.

In return, I am looking for someone who feels a genuine sense of responsibility toward the clinic, our clients, our team, and the reputation we are building together.

That means communicating openly, following through, contributing ideas, maintaining strong clinical standards, and caring about the overall client experience—not approaching the clinic simply as a place to obtain referrals or fill available hours.
I do not expect perfection, and I do not expect you to know everything. I do expect honesty, reliability, initiative, loyalty, and a willingness to have direct conversations when something needs attention.

I value humour, personality, creativity, warmth, and authenticity. I am not looking for a smaller version of myself. I want to help the right clinician develop their own voice, strengths, and area of expertise while contributing to the shared identity of the clinic.
Ultimately, I am looking for the kind of working relationship where you feel, “Maddi is invested in me, and I am invested in what we are creating together.”

THE PERSONALITY FIT

I will likely work best with someone who is:
- Warm, grounded, genuine, and approachable
- Curious rather than defensive
- Comfortable asking questions and acknowledging what they do not yet know
- Open to feedback, mentorship, and clinical consultation
- Reliable and able to communicate directly
- Independent enough to take initiative, but collaborative enough to be part of a team
- Interested in contributing ideas rather than simply receiving referrals
- Thoughtful about the experience clients have within the clinic
- Excited to become part of what we are building over time

Because this is a small and collaborative team, personality and shared values matter just as much as credentials.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CASELOAD SUPPORT

In return, I invest meaningfully in helping associates develop their clinical skills, professional identity, and caseload.

This includes:
• Mentorship and clinical consultation
• Internal referrals
• A professional profile on our website
• Support developing a focused, clinic-aligned professional bio
• Jane online-booking integration
• SEO visibility and targeted clinic advertising
• Opportunities to collaborate within our integrated treatment model

My goal is not simply to fill someone’s available hours. I want to help the right person become known for meaningful, thoughtful,
and high-quality work.

THIS POSITION MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT FIT...

This position may not be a good fit for someone who wants to practise primarily as a broad generalist, operate an entirely separate practice under the clinic name, or simply receive referrals without participating in consultation, collaboration, and the continued development of the clinic. Some evening availability will also be required.

HOW TO APPLY

If this sounds like you, please submit your CV and a personalized cover letter addressing:
- Why trauma work interests you
- What population or clinical specialty you hope to develop
- What you could bring that would complement our existing services
- Why our environment and integrated treatment model appeal to you
- What type of mentorship or professional growth you are hoping to receive

Please do not submit a general résumé without a personalized cover letter. I genuinely want to understand who you are, what excites you clinically, and why you believe this particular opportunity may be the right fit.
