Research continues to show that gender bias exists in healthcare and it impacts outcomes. Studies have found that women are more likely to have their pain underestimated or dismissed, experience longer wait times in emergency settings, and face delays in diagnosis for conditions like heart disease and autoimmune disorders. Historically, much of medical research has been based on male bodies, which can affect how symptoms are recognized and treated.

We’d love to hear from you, what systematical issues have come up in your healthcare experience? comment below.

Taking time for pre-baby conversations can make a big difference. It gives you and your partner space to get on the same page, talk through expectations, and think about how you want to handle those early days. It doesn’t mean you’ll have everything figured out before baby's arrival, it just means you’ve started the conversation, and that can make things feel a whole lot more grounded when baby arrives. Here are some ideas on topics to discuss below.

Newborns move through different little states throughout the day.
Sometimes they’re deeply asleep, sometimes a bit wiggly in active sleep, sometimes just quietly taking everything in, and other times letting you know they need something. When you start to notice these patterns, it gets a little easier to understand what your baby is asking for and when they’re ready to feed, connect, or just be held and learning their rhythm over time.

Hiring a labour doula is really about having steady, trusted support in one of the most intense and life-changing experiences you’ll ever go through. Someone who stays with you the whole time, helps you make sense of what’s happening, offers comfort when things feel big, and supports both you and your partner so you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Making sure you feel informed, supported, and held through the experience. If you’ve been wondering whether a doula might be right for you, we’re always happy to connect.

Today is Nurse Appreciation Day.
As Doulas, we are so grateful for the nurses who care for our clients during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. You are often the steady, knowledgeable presence in the room, balancing clinical care with compassion, and supporting families through some of their most important moments.
We see the way you advocate, the way you respond in real time, and the way you help create a sense of safety for the families we support. It truly makes a difference, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
We value the collaboration, the shared care, and the mutual goal of helping families feel supported, informed, and respected.
To all the nurses we have the privilege of working alongside, thank you
If a nurse has been part of your experience, feel free to tag them or share your appreciation below.

Mother’s Day can hold so many different emotions, stories, and experiences and we honour all of them. To the mothers here, the mothers who are no longer physically with us, the people who mother in so many quiet and powerful ways, those navigating loss, longing, or complicated relationships, and the parents, caregivers, aunties, grandmas, and chosen family who show up with love every day, you are seen.
Today we celebrate care in all its forms. The steady hands, the exhausted hearts, the gentle resilience, and the fierce love that often goes unnoticed.
However this day meets you, may you feel held, supported, and deeply valued.

Red Dress day, or the National Day of Awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and two spirited individuals is observed today. It honours the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous people to raise awareness and attention to the gendered and racialized violence against Indigenous people, a human rights crisis rooted in colonization.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the work and importance of reconciliation, we encourage you mark the day and help build awareness of this ongoing harm and honour those we have lost and their families by reading and sharing the MMIWG Final Report and the Calls to Justice , Wearing red on May 5 and posting on social media,
use hashtags such as: , +, , and
Also, support any vigils, walks, events or discussions that your community may be holding or simply hang a red dress in your window or in your yard. Speak out against racism, sexism, ignorance, homophobia and transphobia in the home, workplace and community, and encourage others to do the same.
