Thank you to each and every one of you who joined us yesterday for the rally and vigil 🌻🩵💚💛

We also want to acknowledge and express our sincere gratitude to the speakers who spoke. Talking in public about someone you lost or what you are going through is a hard thing to do. They did it anyway, and they did it so this does not happen to someone else.

Also want to shout out Marie Renaud, Andrew Knack, and Keren Tang - Ward Karhiio and Chris Galloway, Friends of Medicare for showing their respect and support for the event 🫶

Families, supporters and advocates gathered in downtown Edmonton on Saturday for the One Is Too Many vigil and rally to honour those facing cuts to disability funding. The province's new disability program, ADAP, offers recipients $200 less per month.

On June 4th 2026, a Disabled Albertan man named Scott Ganley walked away from his life. This was 4 days before Bruce Johnson was to take his own life. Scott’s family believes that he too has died by su***de. Another life cut short due to the actions of this provincial government.

It was not and is not easy to be approved for AISH. It’s another challenge when applying on the basis of mental health struggles. AISH was intended to be a stable, consistent financial support for those who were unable to maintain gainful employment due to their disability/disabilities. That stability was shattered when the United Conservative Party announced the introduction of ADAP and the overhaul of these long relied upon supports such as AISH. With the justification being saving a bit of money (which has not proven to be the case thus far), how many lives is this government willing to risk? When will it be enough? How long until it takes someone you love?

One Is Too Many.

Bruce Johnson was one too many.

Scott Ganley was one too many.

Every Disabled, Indigenous, 2LGBTQIA+, Immigrant, or Senior person we have unknowingly lost in this government’s cruelty and callousness, is one too many.

We will not let them be forgotten.

Join us tomorrow, September 12th, at Centennial Plaza in Edmonton, Alberta at 1PM.

Show up to grieve.

Show up to resist.

Guest Speaker: Hannah McIntyre

Speaker Bio: Hannah McIntyre is an Albertan who has felt the direct impacts that the introduction of ADAP had on the Disabled community. On June 4th, Hannah’s brother, Scott Ganley, walked away from his life. He is currently still missing. In sharing Scott’s story, Hannah has brought much needed attention and awareness towards the harm of this government’s policy. Her honesty and vulnerability has inspired other Albertans to follow her example.

Guest Speaker: !

Speaker Bio: Maggie (any pronouns) is a Q***r, Disabled, COVID-Concious, C-PTSD Survivor, Environmentalist and Artist. Previously on AISH, they are one of the many Albertans who were moved over to ADAP without their consent or consultation. Through their activism, they have sought to bring much needed awareness towards Disability issues in Alberta. Volunteering their artistic talents and vision of sustainability, they strive to make art and environmentalism accessible for all in their community.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Heidi L. Janz !

Speaker Bio: Dr. Heidi Janz is a long-time disability justice advocate, professor of Disability Ethics, playwright, and filmmaker in Edmonton, and a Founding Member of PADA. She has made a (5th?) career (SHH! Don't tell the Alberta Government!!!) out of seeking to expose the myth that disabled people can contribute meaningfully to society only by finding and maintaining paid employment. Sadly, ADAP is indisputable proof that her work here is not done.
