EMC is excited to welcome Dr. John Johnson to Edson! Dr. Johnson completed his training at the University of Alberta and will be starting in Edson in October, seeing patients without a family doctor and working at the hospital.

Dr. Johnson will NOT be accepting patients into his practice as their designated family doctor at this time. When he does begin to accept, he will be taking patients off the EMC waiting list. For more details on how to be added to the waiting list, please contact the clinic at 780-723-5531.

A widespread phishing scam is targeting Albertans with fraudulent text messages falsely claiming their physical health card is "obsolete". The province confirms these texts are fake. Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the government will never send unsolicited text messages asking for your personal or financial information

These messages may ask you to click a link or provide personal information such as:
• Alberta Health Care number
• Banking or credit card information
• Personal identification details

*** Please be cautious. Do not click on suspicious links or share personal or financial information unless you have confirmed you are dealing with an official government source.

If you receive a message that seems suspicious:
* Delete the message.
* Do not reply or click any links.
*. Verify the need to release any health care-related information directly through official Alberta government channels.

Please help protect your family, friends, and neighbors by sharing this post. Staying informed is one of the best ways to prevent fraud.

“No Show” / Missed Appointments

This week, we had 28 missed (“no show”) appointments where patients did not attend their scheduled visits. While we understand that unexpected situations can arise, this number represents the equivalent of a full day of a physician’s schedule going unused, resulting in fewer patients being seen.

For this reason, our clinic charges a “no show” fee for missed appointments and cancellations with less than 24 hours notice. However, our preference is always to offer these appointment times to other patients in need of care. If you know you will be unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible to cancel.

Given the current physician shortage, timely cancellations help us ensure that appointments are available and patients can be seen as efficiently as possible.

Important Update: Walk-In Clinic Registration Process

We’ve recently updated the registration process for our Walk-In Clinic following a successful trial period. The clinic remains open Monday through Thursday, but here’s what’s new:

You can now register anytime after we open at 8:30 AM until all spots are full.

After registering, you’ll be assigned a specific time to return—no need to hang around! However, your return time is an appointment estimate and there may still be a potential wait.

Please ensure you return at your scheduled time. If you miss your appointment, it may be forfeited and a "no show" fee may apply before you can use the Walk-In Clinic again.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to improve your experience.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are a patient who uses Freedom mobile please contact them to let them know that landline Telus phones (including the clinic phones!) cannot reach your phone! This will cause them to change a setting and within 24 hours, you will should be reachable again.

Good Morning Edson & Yellowhead County,
As summer approaches, we want to update you on physician availability in Edson. Two doctors are leaving at the end of June, one is moving to part-time, and two others will be away for training most of the summer—training they've waited nearly a year for. This leaves just four physicians available for hospital and ER shifts, the minimum needed to keep them running.

As a result, clinic coverage will be limited. Most doctors will be working 4–6 hospital/ER shifts weekly, leaving them only 1–2 days—or sometimes none—for clinic appointments.

We're doing our best to keep the walk-in clinic open Monday-Thursday. Any closures will be shared on our page.

We continue working with AHS to recruit new physicians and are hopeful help is on the way, though we don’t yet have a start date.

We understand this situation is frustrating and appreciate your patience as we work through these challenges.
