who we were quietly becoming

not by leaving the world behind
but by giving something of ourselves to it
perhaps this is the mystery
we are not here
to keep what we are given
we are here
to transform it
and leave behind
a little more beauty
than we found
that makes being here
all the more worthwhile

Prehnite, Quartz, Flowers

You have arrived
where the forest knew you would
the roads once feared were too sharp
have softened beneath your weight
the burdens carried
have folded into themselves
and no longer press against your chest
to speak only when the word
matches the shape of the air
to move only when the step
knows the pulse of the earth
those once tethered to
stand differently now
some are closer
some are gone
but all meet you where you stand
or they meet themselves instead
you no longer explain the light
you are the light
it curves around you
through you
without your pleading
joy rises, unbidden
and your hands do not justify it
depth is a river to float in
not a weight to lift
to have learned the rhythm
of your own becoming
waves, not ladders
space, not compromise
presence, not persuasion
and when you look back
to the days you hesitated
you see they were only the wings
you needed to open fully
now you stand
quiet and luminous
and the forest remembers you

Summering

I don’t know how many summers you lost to shame, heartache or fear. Nor do I know how many summers you have left, in this lottery draw of life. But I know one thing…you have this summer, right here, right now. And I know something else too - you are perfect and worthy, so worthy. Because you’re nature. And nature unfurls in the summer, that’s the law. Nature blooms and stretches with petals wide open to the light and roots reaching deep into fertile soil. Nature thrives in summer. Bold in the knowing that bounty is all around. And deserved. If you find yourself less able to care for their approval. If you find yourself drawn to laughter, joy, and pulled from darkness and drudgery. Be pulled, my friend. It is summer. You are summering. And you’re right on time.
